Where to buy youth or women's dirt bike gear?

Kassie

I'm wondering if anyone knows of any good websites to buy dirt bike gear for cheap? I need some new boots and can fit in to kids sizes if smaller women's sizes can't be found.
Thanks!

Answer
http://www.btosports.com/
http://mxsouth.com/

I have dealt with both these companies and they are helpful and the goods do come unlike a few other companies that sell online that seem to take forever to send the stuff.

Just make sure you have tried the particular brands on somewhere like a shop so you know just what size you take and also that youth pants won't have the waist that the womens pants have.

Can anyone tell me the best place to get a youths dirt bike helmet?

Mrs E

Can I get one for like $50.00 or am I going to have to spend more? (I live in Michigan if that helps)

Answer
I would not let anyone wear a helmet that only cost $50 as your head is worth more than that.

Make sure you purchase new so you know the helmet has not had an impact and make sure you try them on and are helped by a salesman who knows how to fit helmets. It is one of the most important items that you have to purchase so don't scimp on it as your life is worth more than that.

My son has a rack of used helmets and only a few of them look damaged. But they have all had a major impact so are no longer used by him. It costs us a fortune but his head is worth it.

How far do you let your kids attempt physical daring?

Do you make your kid wear a helmet for all outdoor activities where they could possibly get injured? What's your take on climbing trees, trampolines, bikes and scooters, roller skates (which was this weekend's attempt by my son....) etc. Are there things your kids are not allowed to do and why are they not allowed to do them?

Answer
I looked at the probability of them getting hurt, and the severity of that injury as compared to the gains.

Example: Recently, our friends came over with their 6-year old son. He is quite inquisitive and loves to figure out how things work. He found in the drawer a rat trap, and started playing with it. After several attempts at pulling the bail over, I offered him a smaller, mouse trap. I let him keep the big one, too, but suggested he play with the smaller one first.

I knew he could break a finger with the big trap, yet I wanted him to learn how they worked. Yes, the small trap snapped on his finger a couple times, and he learned how to be careful and get his fingers in the way. In short order, he has learned how to set it and was tripping it with a pencil. He eventually went back to the big trap, set it and tripped it with the pencil.. it snapped the pencil in half. He put that trap up and continued with the smaller one.

They wear pads and helmets when skating or biking around the neighborhood. But not when skating at a rink. They climb trees at their own risk without protection.

I've seen worse injuries on the sporting field, especially to knees than I've seen climbing trees. Yet, one good bonk on the head is all it takes.

But, on a philosophical level, are we not ignoring the Darwinistic development of all life on Earth? Survival of the most adaptable? Should not the slow, the less coordinated, the less balanced, the ones who don't see the car coming... shouldn't some of those be thinned from the herd? That is how we got this far.

You've gotta make your own decisions. I know I learned a lesson from every bump I got, from my Erector Set, from my Gilbert Chemistry Set, from my tree house, my homemade boat (which sank).... Those are the things that made us engineers that made this country.

How to get kids in shape for x-country ski season?

Frankie

My kids are considering cross country ski races next year, but just getting into it this year. They are taking beginning lessons now at the course where the Junior Nationals will be held in spring, so they are excited about that. My daughter is almost 8 and son is 10. What sort of things should they do over summer? What sort of games and exercises would be helpful? How to make it more fun so they don't get burned out?

Answer
First, place restrictions on their use of phones, tv, computer and the like. This will direct their focus to more physical activities, and they will train themselves. I recently attended an athletic training seminar, and one of the topics was training pre-teen athletes. The general consensus seems to be- don't. These young athletes' bodies are still developing, and by directing them to a more active lifestyle, they will keep fit by simply doing what kids do best- running, jumping, skipping, climbing trees, riding their bikes, etc.

Diet and rest are also important. Make sure they have a healthy diet, and limit their intake of processed foods. Let their body clocks dictate sleep and rest periods, when a child is tired, let them rest.

Im looking for 150 mm cranks for a kids mountain bike and wondering if I can just use BMX cranks with an older, unsplined bottom bracket. I'm setting it up as a 1x9. Any advice would be appreciated.

It not easy to answer without seeing the problem. I would suggest you go to your local dump as there are usually old kids bikes there and you may find something that suits. Hope that helps.

What is a good dual sport bike for a short person?

Emily Alla

I am 5'5 and 180lbs and I want to buy a motorbike that is street legal but good on dirt roads and trails. I've seen bikes that start at about 250cc, and that seems like its too big for me. I am pretty sure those bikes would be too tall as well. Whats a good dirt bike for a short person? I don't plan on going over 50mph on the highway, and even slower on trails. Are there kits where I can convert a dirt bike to a street legal bike?

Answer
Kits yes, fiber? jk...

The XRs were good, CRF230s are kinda short, TW200 is very short and a fun little bike, KE100 was fun, but on the odd side.

Or you could get a KLR650, DRZ400, XR650 LOL I'm kidding! jeez, it's only 11:30pm, but I'm still tired!

Will I need a double stroller for a 4year old and newborn?

kids bike seat age image

Mommy

We are planning on walking (45 min) to and from preschool and walking/jogging a lot on the beach, so it would be nice to have a seat in case his legs get tired. He will be 4 when the new baby is born. I do like the phil and teds, but I'm thinking that 4 is too old? What would you suggest?

Thank you!

Answer
I had a phil and teds and loved it, but my kids were closer together. If your son is small for his age, then it could be fine, but I find the legroom on it wasn't great for the older child. It's also great for manuvering through malls and urban areas, but not so much for off-trail (wheels are too small/no suspension) or running (the lower seat interferes with your stride).

For the walks to and from preschool, a sit-and-stand one is great. It really depends on how much your little guy is used to walking. When my son was three, he hiked Sentinal Dome in Yosemite with us and had no problem. At 4, he wouldn't have wanted a stroller to go to preschool. Is there a place he could chain a little bike at the preschool or does he like riding a scooter? At three, my daughter whines to be carried from the car to the mall door. If I were to have another child I can guarentee that she would want to ride in a stroller. So, part of it is just knowing your son and how much help he's going to need.

I have a double schwinn running stroller that I love and still use for my 3 and 5 year old when I'm out for a 4 mile run (any more than that and it's too much to push and any less and I usually have them ride their bike/trike along with me). If you can find a Bob on craigslist, then I'd recommend it, but I couldn't afford it personally. For whether you really need the huge double jogger, it depends on how much you really want to run on the beach for your own exercise and how much of it is that you plan to take your son for walks on the beach and don't mind stopping to look at shells, throw sticks, and build sandcastles. ;-)

How can I learn to ride a bicycle?

Danielsan

I tried riding a bike as a kid but fell and was traumatized to the point that I never got back on a bike. Now I feel, as an adult ready to take on the challenges, but that little fear keeps encroaching back in. How can I make this a successful feat overcome, and finally learn how to ride a bike?

Answer
I had trouble learning to balance a bike and I know someone who thinks correct reach to the pedal is more important than reach to the ground and put my kids on bikes too big for them and they had nasty accidents that put them off for ages.

Here are some tips:

Get a trustworthy bike-shop or sensible and knowledgeable friend help you to work out a good frame size for you. Although most adult bikes are 26" (which is the height of the wheels) the length needs considering as well. But for now, as long as it doesn't seem too hard or too easy to reach the handlebars, that should do. When you are riding well and regularly for some distance, you'll work out what, if anything, is wrong. A call to a bike shop to tell them your height should be enough for them to tell you if you should be on a 26".

Make sure the front and rear brakes are working well and mainly rely on the rear brake for now. Preferably no back pedal brakes unless you feel that lacking in skill. If so, as soon as you feel ready, get onto a bike without because it will be easier to get fully competent.

To work out a good height for the saddle, sit on the bike and make sure that you can put both feet almost completely on the ground at the same time. Best not to be able to put both fully and completely on the ground because that will make pedaling very cramped and if you are too cramped, it will affect your balance. This is an excellent height for being able to stop yourself falling over in most situations or give you some control of the fall if you do lose your balance. This will help with confidence which is key to learning.

To learn to balance a bike, find a gentle slope with a safe ending, either going uphill or just levels off. Start at the top of the slope and sit on the bike saddle with your legs hanging out to the sides, not on the pedals. Let the bike roll and use your feet to lightly push you back towards centre if you start to go over. (If necessary, take the pedals off for this stage but children upwards of about 7 and adults probably don't need to.) Keep going back to the top of the slope and rolling down again; as you feel more confident about your balance, try putting your feet on the pedals (but don't worry about turning them yet). The slope doesn't need to be very long - the dead-end I learned on only had about 3 houses on each side. When you can balance the bike and get your feet on the pedals, start trying a bit of pedalling. Soon after this, you're ready for a longer slope or a piece of quiet straight road.

When you have mastered your balance and are starting to ride fairly confidently, start raising the seat a bit at a time, never going beyond what you feel safe doing, until your legs are just slightly bent as you sit on the seat and put your feet on the pedals.

It took me most of an afternoon to finally get my balance. My family had spent quite a bit of time helping me but I still hadn't got it. That afternoon of rolling down the slope was pretty much what finally got me going.

Also, stay away from bumps until you feel really confident and then just small ones until you work out what you can handle. And of course, *never* jump your bike up onto a kerb unless you have special wheels - they'll get damaged and go out of "true" and then the brakes won't work properly.

If my child laughs during spanking, should I use more force?

kids bike 4 a cure image

Gary

Answer
nope, dont bother. if the child is laughing its not doing what its supposed to be doing (Discipline).

try taking their stuff. they HATE that.

for instance,

1) spanking never worked with one of my kids (the others yes) when my one son was little, if he was angry at me he would smash my stuff (only when he was mad [my ex was an abuser, so he learned all of that from him smashing everything]).

he would smash, then stand there with a firm look on his face, "ha ha" he'd say to me.

i finally went in his room and grabbed the prized bat mobile, and proceeded to stomp on it until nothing left. "ha ha yourself. not so funny now, huh? DONT do it again".

he never did it again. all of the talking talking talking with this kid and THAT was the cure. i wished i had figured that out years ago.

2) when my kids wouldnt use bike helmets i would pull out the tools and take off the front tire of their bike, then lock it in the trunk for one or two days. i'm not upsetting myself, i'll just take it. if they did it again, i would do it for a week.

3) i used to be stupid and take their whole video game set up; games, paddles, etc... until one day i realized one better. i would just walk in and take the JUST the paddles to the video games. i told them they could look at it all they wanted.

they replied 'but now we cant play it'

'bummer' was my reply. :)

4) when they would argue with each other (or me) and slam the bedroom door(s) i would just pop the pins in the door and take the whole dam door (LOL!!). yup. i just put it against the wall in my bedroom.

they would say "hey! thats MY door"
"nope, its mine... the room is still yours" i would say back.

see? why aggravate yourself... you can do far more damage by taking their stuff (they reach an age where you can reason with them and spanking doesnt work anymore). kids HATE when you take their stuff, and more then likely, usualy stop their crap.

yvette
mom of 4 and still standing my ground ;)

Why are ny state laws so strict?

we cant drive until 17(maybe mmoving it up to 18
14-15 yr labor laws are so strict that no one would hire
we are not allowed to ride small motor vehicles(quads and dirt bikes) unless its a closed course which you have to be 18 for
and on top of that the sales tax is 8.625%!!!!!!!!!

Answer
Try California's rules. AND our sales tax is 9.25%
Also, driving rules are made because teens don't take it seriously. I got my license when I was 17 (in 2006), and its a miracle I made it to 18 the way i was driving. I'll be 21 this year and I've been in 4 car accidents. 2 of which were my fault in my first year driving.
Also rules for quads and dirt bikes are there for your safety.
Labor laws are there for a reason. Way too many kids suffered in history being beaten and over-worked you should be thankful for their sacrifices allowing you to just be a kid and enjoy it today.

Best pocket bike for kids?

Asia D

I want to purchase a pocket bike, mini dirt bike, or mini quad for my nephew's graduation present. He is 6 years old, about 60 lbs, average Height. I want to know the best thing to get him, if there are any with speed lock-outs or remote shut offs. A few good name brands would be awesome. I also need something I can get training wheels for. I'm looking to spend no more than 500. Please no comments about how he doesn't need one or that he needs to be supervised he is well taken care and we understand this isn't a toy. I just need advice on what to buy. Thank you!

Answer
Pocket bikes are Chinese made knock off's/clones of Japanese and European bikes. They are inferior to the bike they are cloned from. They do not have the reliability, dependability, quality or craftsmanship of the bikes they are cloned from.

With that said, I would recommend you look into a Japanese or European bike. He will fit on a 50cc to a 65cc bike. Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha and KTM all make mini-bikes.

Since you do not have a lot to spend, you will have to look used. Check Ebay, Craigslist, CycleTrader and BikeFinds.

If you go with a used older bike, Honda used to make a MR 50 2-stroke and an XR75 4-stroke. The XR75 is built like iron and will last for your nephew's children.

The Yamaha PW50 has a restrictor that can be removed.

When it comes to training wheels, just Google mini-bike training wheels. There are a lot of different ones out there. Example: http://gokartsusa.com/EZ-Bike-Mini-Motorcycle-Training-Wheels.aspx
Training wheels are not cheap, they cost around $150. You can also look for used training wheels on Ebay and Craigslist.

If your nephew can ride a bicycle, he will be able to ride a dirt bike. I am not a fan of quads. When I taught my children to ride, I also let them ride my buddies quads. They all preferred dirt bikes to quads. Quads are super easy to learn to ride, but are very easy to tip over and if they do not keep their feet on the pegs can get run over by their own machine. Quads are also heavier than dirt bikes and if the child flips the quad, they may not be able to get our from underneath it without help.

This is the motorcycle racing section, so we mainly only recommend racing machines, but since he is just starting out a true mini-bike from say Sears or Pep Boys might fit the bill fine. These mini-bikes brand new cost under $400. Have large 4-stroke lawn mower engines on them and are perfect for trail riding and basic transportation. If your nephew likes riding though, he will outgrow the mini-bike within a summer.

Don't forget riding gear. Helmet, goggles and a pair of riding boots. Goggles, gloves, shoulder pads with chest protector, kidney belt, armored riding pants and racing jersey can come later. You can find used gear at Ebay, Craigslist, garage sales and flea markets. Does he need the protective gear for a mini-bike? Probably not, but a helmet and goggles are the minimum he should have.

If he ever needs tips on riding or maintenance, tell him to check Youtube. The amount of information on there is unbelievable. He can learn everything from fixing a flat to rebuilding an engine.

When I bought my new house a year ago my ex scoffed at me saying it was ok and then proceeded to tell me he and his gf are buying a 700,000 dollar house and that she woudl be a stay home mom (she just had a kid one month ago) he brags about the thngs he wants to buy or makes it sound like he is doing so much better than me...i am not rich but good with my money and cant just go out a buy 50 dollar jeans for kid like he can (for our child) i buy form walmart and zellers cause its cheap and i dont have to worry if it gets ruined so much) but he in his own way kinda puts down what i can get our kid when its my turn to have him and this is not helping at all...at xmas they must have spent 1000 or more on him and i just got him 2 toys, needless to say he wanted more and wasnt appreciating what i could do...iam at a loss and im sick of being made to sound like i cant get my kid anything great...so what if i cant buy 50 dollar jeans or stuff....

Answer
I have a 12yr old son and believe me his dad and new wife have way more money than I do. After 12 years I can see that my son does not remember every Lego set and $100 video game bought for him. He remembers the things we did and places I took him. Talk to grown children from broken homes and see what they have to say. On another note, may I suggest you and your ex attend co-parent classes? It helps you establish boundaries and policies. Like xmas and birthdays for instance. Our co parent class had us agree to take ONE list from our kid and divide it up. Large items (bike, snowboard) should say it is from BOTH no matter who paid or have a neutral relative like grandparents give it.

I only had one bike in life, which was a present. It was a kids bike so there was no gears I could use and stuff. But now that I have outgrown the bike, I am shopping around for a new one. I see the handlebars have this controller thing that appears to be gears or something, and I have no idea what they mean and how they work. Also, I see bikes advertised as "21-speed Bike" and etc, what does that mean?

Answer
You have led a sheltered life, haven't you.
The gears are used to make cycling easier. Higher gears are used downhill to gain speed without pedaling like mad, while the lower gears are for going uphill where you pedal faster but expend less effort.
A 21 speed bike has 21 speeds available. That one would have 7 speeds on the rear wheel and 3 on the pedal sprocket 3 x 7 =21. The 3 pedal sprocket gears are used for general speed range changing. The lowest for use in hilly country, the second for flat and the top speed range for downhill. The (7) rear wheel gears are used for uphill and downhill as I described before.

How do I install training wheels around a rear derailleur on a 20" bike?

StanleyLiv

Just purchased Wald training wheels for kids bike (16" to 26"). The right side has a gear derailleur on it, which extends further than the axle. I can't put the training wheel bar on the axle since I don't have clearance.

Can this axle be extended out farther somehow?

Answer
There are better ways to learn how to ride a bike. Remove the pedals and lower the saddle so they can flat foot on the ground and push them self around and learn to steer. Then try coasting down a small slop with the feet down and then lifting the feet. Next replace the pedals and gradually raise the saddle.

SnapIt!!

My daughter is 6, and we've been going through a rough patch, but for the most part, we're fine. It's just me and her in the house. I dirt bike on a regular basis, while my daughter's with friends or with my sister. I recently joined a group, and we're going away this weekend. I haven't been away from my daughter in months. I asked her dad if he'd watch her (which he never does), and he is guilting me about leaving Friday night, all day Saturday, and returning that night. I'm having my very good friend stay tonight, my daughter's toddler teacher hand out with her on Saturday, and my sister taking her Saturday night in the event something happens with the weather, and I can't return until Sunday. My mother is also on my case about me leaving "so often". I work full time, I'm home in the evenings and just about every weekend. I might take a few hours out of my Saturday and go ride for a while, but that's only if I have a sitter. My daughter's not old enough to come with me, yet. I'm not sure how much time is too much time.
Also, activities. Because of the fact, I'm on my bike a lot, especially in the summer, I want my daughter to come out with me, but her dad says if I do that, he'll have me in for child abuse because dirt bikes and motorcycles are "unsafe" at her age. I want to do activities as a woman, and I want my daughter to go with me, but she can't and I still get guilted into leaving her behind. I've given up a lot to be a mom (friends, night out, girl time with friends, etc). Should I give up personal activities, as well?

Answer
Ask yourself, would a man do this - secure babysitting to go off and have fun - and feel guilty? Of course not. Would he be stupid enough to want to take along a six-year-old girl? Of course not. Think like a man. You have a right to a private life. Some things are better not shared. Risky stunts like dirt biking is an example.

What is this about Obama using deserts and rivers for dirt biking and not feeding babies?

"Obama believes that after an abortion....
and the child comes out ALIVE, he believes that there is a right to kill it (just not feed it or care for it) until it dies. He also believes that the deserts and rivers should be closed down for uses such as dirt biking and such."

a conservative republican told this to me, what are they actually trying to say Obama wants to do? or is it completely made up?

Answer
The "Born Alive" issue is irrelevant. The Fetus is incapable of surviving at all at the point that the issue is referring to. The deserts and rivers thing I am not familiar with, but frankly, it sounds like something that was taken way out of context and blown way out of proportion by paranoid repubs, just like the first issue.

I really want a dirt bike. Ive always loved motor cycles since i was a little kid. I have a friend that goes to my school and him and his friends ride dirt bikes and quads down the street and race so there not quiet. he lives in a different neighbor hood. I live on long island and im just wondering if a cop will really bother a 14 year old kid for riding a dirt bike don the street not doing anything illegal? or will he just look the other way?

Answer
Generally, cops like messing with kids.
Some cops do not care, some cops follow the law.

If they follow the law, they have to ticket you for driving without a driver's license, and a ticket for having an illegal bike on the streets. Since bike is illegal to be on the streets, you cannot legally take it home on the streets; hence the bike has to be impounded. my little brother has never had a big birthday present, and he is turning 13. he loves dirt bikes and currently rides my boyfriends pit bikes around when we go out to the track or riding at a parking lot. for his birthday this year i want to get him started with his gear and hopefully get him to start saving for a bigger bike so that he can learn how to ride. i would love a list of things that could help me get started. thank you!

Answer
There is a lot of stuff to dirt biking but some basics for gear that you wanted to get him would be
helmet
goggles
chest protector
gloves
jersey
pants
and boots
Thats the basic saftey equipment. This stuff can be pretty expensive and start to add up. But that stuff will make him feel like he is a pro.

I am a nanny and am working with a set of parents who really think it's time their daughter ride her bike without training wheels. She's definitely physically ready and has good balance, etc., but doesn't really seem confident in herself and won't concentrate. If we stop taking her out she gets upset because then she can't get her brand new purple bike, but if we do take her out, she purposely wobbles the bike. We've tried talking to her and we hold onto the back of the seat while she rides. Are there any other tips you could offer? Nothing mean and nasty about pushing the kid--the parents have decided on this approach with the child (and the mom's a child psychologist so she knows what she's doing), I just need to take her outside every day and "practice" until she gets it... Any suggestions?

Answer
We spent a great deal of time trying to teach our son to ride his bike. Riding on grass helped quite a lot, as did spending a lot of time running along holding the seat while he got used to balancing and pedaling and steering at the same time. We also found practicing for short periods often helped keep everyone from getting too frustrated. The reality is most kids won't do it until they are ready emotionally - the physical readiness usually comes long before the emotional readiness. Good luck!

Sorry for such a silly question, but I'm just not sure.

I have a new toddler bike with training wheels for my niece. She is 2 now (3 in September). I'm not sure if she'll be able to start riding this summer, or if I should wait until her birthday or Christmas to give her the bike so she can ride next summer. Or, is 3 even too young?

Thanks in advance!

Answer
She can probably start riding now, depending on the size of the bike. You want a bike that is correctly sized. A child will go through several bikes. There is not a one size fits all. My kids are on their fourth set of bikes and they are 8 & 9. They began riding at 2 1/2. One was riding without training wheels at 3 1/2 and the other at 4 1/2.

I was without training wheels at 3 1/2 too.

It's easier when they are young. They have less of a fear. Only with age do we develop fear.

I'm 41 years old and I'm 5'7" with a short 28" inseam. I like dual purpose dirt bikes, but I can't rest both feet on the ground. That's a problem at stop lights. How can I lower the bike for very minimal dollars? I don't want a kids bike either.

Answer
you can get a seat that is not as thick, or you can change shocks to a shorter shock, but that will mess up your suspension geometry. i suggest you get use to it or get a different bike.

P.S. you could also get a fat woman to set on back, but remember to wear a helmet so no one knows who you are.

What kid of bike is good for an adult beginner?

tothepoint

I never learned how to ride a two wheeler as a kid just a tricycle.

I've tried the Giant Suede and the Schwinn Town and Country Trike and was looking at the Townie. $500 is about my price range.
By tried I mean I hopped on and sat on it while the saleswoman held the front wheel. The trike I was able to get on an d go obviously =D

Answer
You will have to judge if a three wheeler will meet you needs.

I will tell you how to learn to ride a two wheeler. Buy a low cost Dahon folding bike and get a bike helmet. Drop the seat way down so you can stand up while sitting on the seat. Wear your helmet and long pants. Go to a local park during quiet hours when no one is there. Drop the seat on the Dahon so low that it can be used as a scooter with both of your feet flat on the ground. With helmet on and riding in the soft grass in the park walk around with your weight on the seat and getting the hang of the steering. Don't use the pedals at all and in fact they can even be removed from the bike. When you get too far leaned to one side use the leg on that side to right yourself and start again. This will take most adults about 1-2 weeks of visits to the park to get the hang of it. After a while you will be able to coast and hold your legs off the ground for several seconds before the bike loses speed and leans over. At that point you can try to actually start pedaling.

Where in Malaysia can i rent a supermarket for one night only?

Racing with bicycle on the road outdoors has been so boring. Racing indoors is really fun. I've done it before in some big houses. Overtaking bikes is a challenge indoors. On the streets, you just need to be more physically fit and make more speed. In indoors, It's like F1 drivers trying to find a way to get through the car ahead of them.

Any supermarkets would allow me to do this? Or any of you guys have big house capable of making a track inside and you are willing to allow me to have a bicycle race in it?

Constipating baby pls help?

Hie I'm from Malaysia and both my kids are on the EnfalacA+ and EnfagrowA+ forrmula's and they seem to be constipating especially my boy whose on enfagrow A+ I do not want to change their milk but I am not sure is it the milk which is constipating him he has a trauma each time he passes motion...slight blood at times and the stool is pretty hard as he tends to control his motion for 2 days. Have anyone encountered this with the Enfa product? Is the milk safe ?? My mom is making it a big issue saying tht tis ilk product is the cause of it...what else can i give my babies to avoid constipating pls help
baby gurl is 4 mths old n my boy is 3 years old. I have checked with my doctor and they adv to take Karo corn syrup which is riddicullous to find in Malaysia and my mom is arguing wit me saying its the milk..Can i conclude that i can remain with the same milk but give him more veges n fruits n high fibre meal and slowly will ease off the constipation?? cause he hates vegetables so i have to blend them wif rice n feed hime like proidge he eats chicken n fish with tno problem he jus hates fruits n vege since thn he is kinda improving he no longer bleeds but he tends to hold back due to the trauma n it gets harden whn it comes the nx day...

Answer
I've read that there ARE some milk products that may promote constipation. How old are your babies? Are they already old enough to take semi-solids? If they are, Cerelac Gold in prunes, oats, yogurt and raspberry variety may help. But if they are still younger than 6 months, please ask your doctor for alternative milk. Breast milk helps do away with constipation too.
There is a baby exercise you can do to help relieve constipation: Lay your babies on their backs on the floor, and, holding him by the ankles, move his legs in a gentle, bicycling action. You can also vary this exercise sometimes by reaching baby's arm to the opposite leg and so on. These motions can help baby get rid of painful gas in his tummy and may help relieve constipation.

How do you know it's the right size for you? What parts are important to the weight of the bike? What brands are good? What size and tires are right for this sport.
This is for an 8 years old boy who wants to race for the first time. He's got a helmet and protective clothes. But his bike is not right because it has foot brake. I don't want to asemble and our budget is 250-300.

Answer
For an eight year old, you are looking at a mini or junior sized bike. Micro Mini will be too small. You are looking at a bike with 1 1/8" Tires.

There are complete bikes out there for around $300, but be aware that kids grow out of mini and junior sized bikes all the time, meaning that there, and you can ofen pick up a $400 bike for under $250 that has bee raced 1-2 seasons. Most bike shops could give it a good tune-up for around $50 and you are ready to go.

You are correct that a bike with a coaster brake is not a good choice.

If you are looking for areas to improve a race bike in the weight department, the wheels are the best place to make improvements - as anything that is rotating is more important that the non-rotating parts.

Good Brands? GT, Redline and Diamondback are companies with a hisotry of BMX racing and they are still producing bikes for racing today.

Mongoose, as suggested by one other poster, has not been producing competitive race bikes for a number of years. THey have some entry level bikes that woudl be OK for racing for around $200 and then the rest of thier bikes are Dirt Jump/ Freestyle Bikes. The parent company that owns Mongoose also ownd GT and Schwinn as well as some tother brands. GT is currently thier "race bike" brand.

If you do decide to go used, there are some premium brands to watch for in addition to Redline, Diamond Back and GT, there is also Intense, Supercross, Redman, GHP, Felt and a bunch of others.

Be awere that there are also very nice race bikes bearing the FMF name, and they are good bikes and components. But they are no longer produced and getting any sort of mfg's warranty, even on a new bike, will not likely be possible. But if you can get a new FMF at near used prices, it may work out well.

What are the best birthday gifts ($50 and under) for a 4-year-old boy?

He is very into trains and already has a pretty complete set of Fisher Price's GeoTrax. I don't really want to get into the whole Thomas set too... Plays a bit with Legos. Will be starting preschool in the fall. Has a 2 1/2 year-old brother and 1-year-old sister, so needs to be fairly safe for them too.

Answer
Oh, here are some suggestions, you can also put together a 'theme' gift by putting several of the smaller items in a container, such as bubbles and such in a outdoor toy bucket or bath stuff in a plastic mesh tote.

I will also list a bunch of these under product suggestions.

Blocks... these are a classic that come in all types of sizes and shapes.
Lincoln logs (but the smaller logs would need to be kept away from siblings)
Magnet toys by Megablocks
Tub toys with kids wash cloth and and character towel and tub tints, etc.
Bubbles
Big clunky cars
Board games like Candy Land, Chutes and Ladders and some of Craniums like Hulabaloo
Books, go to any bookstore and check out the great selection of picture books, and don't forget the classics like Dr.Seuss
Balls, kids love balls to play with
Big Wheels, a nice step before a regular bike

Okay, I could keep going, but I'll put stuff in the product recommendation, if I recommend it, it is something my boys have and love or at least very similar...

What is the most comfortable mountain bike seat for a woman with a big bottom?

kids bike gel seat image

Myra G

I just bought a seat that looks comfortable but is not. Any suggestions???
yes, it has been a while since I have used a bike.

Answer
Hi Myra,

First let's get some basic terms squared away. Bike seats are called "saddles"... For the most part "seats" are found in bleachers, office buildings and in cars.

I have been an active cyclist since 1985, currently logging 200-250 miles per week... Now it is true that I am not a woman, nor do I have a wide bottom, but I can help you out a bit. Saddles are now being made women-specific. Most of these are narrower models, but as someone else pointed out, women naturally have a wider pelvic region (the whole birthing thing), so they will be shaped differently from a male saddle. If you went to a decent bike shop, you would see saddles with sections that look like they are missing, cut out or perhaps the maker forgot to finish building it. That however is the way they are suppose to look. The cut out region is to alleviate pressure on your pelvic region - and to weight weenies (what they call people who count every gram of every part that goes on their bikes) it is cool because that saddle will weigh less than solid ones.

If you weren't completely sold on a mountain bike, I would recommend a recumbent for true comfort while riding.. Those are the bikes that you sit in a very wide chair-like "seat", with your legs extended out to the pedals in front of you. Riding a recumbent would work certain muscle groups harder than a regular bike would. Your gluts (butt muscles) would be worked (abused - LOL) hard along with your leg muscles of course. The saddle on a recumbent is light-years more comfortable than a standard bike.

If you are already sold on the mountain bike idea, or perhaps you have one and saddle discomfort has become the principal issue at hand, then first thing I would recommend is to look at Performancebike.com. Click on the SADDLES link on the left. Then select WOMEN'S SADDLES. You will see a very wide shaped saddle there for sale for $39.99 (12% off) called "The Seat" by Ergo. It probably doesn't look anything like any saddle you have ever seen (and yes it is ok to call this one a SEAT! It is advertised as:

"Extra wide for unbelievable support and comfort"

"Short length provides a non-restrictive pedal stroke"

"Integrated rear reflectors for added visibility"

"Gel padding dissipates road vibration while providing plenty of padding for comfort"

Keep in mind that "The Seat" is a saddle that supports your body the same way as when you sit in a chair.

Shoot that almost sounds good enough for me! If it could recline and give me a massage I would be set! LOL! Just kidding of course.

Another thing to keep in mind that if you are riding a department store bicycle, you really should get properly fit on your bike. It sounds like you have a passion that makes you want to ride, but the dang pain in the butt part (sorry) has discomforted you and irked you enough to have you post a question here. A reliable bike shop can help you "Saddle Up" properly. They can tell if your saddle is too high or too far back. They can help if your crank arms are too long, or if the distance to your handlebar is too far away, too low or too high. All of the stated issues above can contribute to a sore backside.

Also on the Performance website you can see the Forté EasyRider Saddle. For the Forte EasyRider follow this link:

http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?SKU=14747&PID=1204522

It too is on sale $19.99 (50% off the regular price)

You can also check out another famous online cycling catalog @ NASHBAR.COM for the following saddles:

Selle San Marco Travel Delux Womenâs Saddle

Selle Royal Ergo GEL Mid Cruiser Saddle

A little more insight can be found at: about.com (See below)

http://bicycling.about.com/od/equipment/a/saddlechoice.htm

If I can help further in any aspect of the sport please don't hesitate to contact me... HOW? Just answer any of the questions that "I ask" with the answer "BIKE HELP NEEDED" and I will do my best to get you the answers you seek.

Best Regards,

Are there different seats on bicycles for men and for women?

dunwerse

Just got back to cycling to work and have a bike with what looks like a regular sadle, but it really hurts my butt. Its longish and thin, is it a guys one? (and I never thought about this really but guys bums aren't THAT different are they? If I go buy a new one should I ask for a ladies sadle or will I get laughed at.

Answer
There are different men's and women's saddles. In general, men's pelvic structures are narrower than women's pelvic structures. (It has to do with birthing kids.) Thus, men's saddles are generally narrower than women's. A comfy saddle is the one that is right for your pelvis.

I particularly like Specialized saddles. They make saddles in a variety of widths for men and women. Along with their saddles, they also have a fitting system that uses a gel pad. You sit on the pad, then you measure the width of the depressions made by your pelvis. Then you buy the appropriate saddle.

I had a lot of trouble with pain and numbness prior to getting a Specialized saddle. When I did the measuring, I found I had a very narrow pelvic structure. (My kids have always said I was a tight a**, but I think we are talking about two different issues.)

Hope you find a saddle that fits you well.

How to become a BMX racer?

bhouser31

How do I start? What kind of bike do I need? What do I need to learn! Anything will be appreciated! Thanks

Answer
What is BMX?
BMX or Bicycle Motocross is a sport where riders of all ages use manual power to maneuver a bike over jumps, banked corners and other obstacles. A lap around the track takes approximately 30 - 45 seconds. BMX was created by kids but it's becoming popular with older racers as well. Unlike most sports, BMX racing depends 100% on your performance, not the combined performance of a team, or team effort. Riders compete in classes, and will remain with that class until he/she has a birthday or he/she progresses by first place wins.

BMX Racing Facts:

Statistics have proven that BMX racing is one of the safest of all sports today. Part of this is due to the mandatory safety requirements. All Riders MUST wear long sleeves, long pants and a full face helmet.

BMX is an excellent individual and family orientated sport. Races are organized into girls classes and boys classes, then subdivided into age groups and skill levels. The age groups range from 5 & under classes to 36 & older. Within these age groups are three skill levels: Novice, Intermediate and Expert. All riders start as Novices and must work up to the more advanced levels by winning races. A Novice must move up to the Intermediate class after they have 6 wins in the Novice class. An Intermediate must move up to the Expert class after they have 25 wins as an Intermediate. There is also competition in the Cruiser class for boys and girls. The age groups for the Cruiser class are 9 & under to 56 & older

How Much Will It Cost?
You can obtain a thirty day trial membership for $25. A trial membership is good only at the track where purchased. During the thirty day trial, you can upgrade to full membership for only $25 more. If you would like to skip the trial membership, you may purchase a full membership for $45, that's a savings of $5 over the trial membership with the conversion cost. The full membership is good one year from the date of purchase. Once you have your full membership, points will be awarded to you at each race and you may compete in any ABA sanctioned event. You can get family discounts signing up additional family members. Ask your local track manager for more information when you sign-up.

What Does My Bike Need to Be Track Ready?
1. Fenders, kickstands, reflectors, chain guard must be removed
2. Must have pads on the top tube, goose neck, and handle bar cross bar
3. Handle bars must have a cover over the metal end of the bars
4. Frame must be in good condition with no cracks
5. Wheel cannot exceed 20 inches (unless cruiser class racer)
6. Handle bars cannot exceed 28 inches
7. Brakes must be in good condition

What Type of Clothing Do I Need?
1. Long pants (racing pants are not mandatory)
2. Long sleeve shirt
3. Full-face helmet with chin strap

How to Get Started Racing BMX:

Kearny Moto Park is a dirt track approximately 1,000 feet long, with banked turns and jumps of all shapes and sizes. Actually, the first thing you need to do is find the sign-up / registration building. It is there that you'll need to fill out an ABA application and sign up to race. First-time racers are able to purchase a temporary membership for $25, which is good for 30 days. A "Temp" provides you with ABA's secondary insurance and enables you to go out on the track. Entry fees are $10.00 per rider.

Before you get up on the starting gate, it is suggested that first you closely watch the riders go around the track. Pay attention to their body motion over jumps (using arms and legs as shock absorbers) and note where riders are pedaling and when they are coasting. Take it slow on your first few laps. Remember, you are brand new to this and those fast, expert racers started off just like you. Take time to learn the track - know which obstacles are coming up and how to take it smoothly. Often, the difference in the beginner class is who is smoothest around the course rather than quickest

THE STARTING GATE:
Since BMX is a "short sprint" sport (with most races lasting 35 to 45 seconds), the start of a race is usually the most important. When you first begin racing, you'll most likely do what is called a one-footed start. Which is having one foot on your pedal and the other foot acting as a "kickstand," resting on the ground to keep you balanced. The majority of riders start with their right foot "forward" (on the pedals). Much like skateboarders or surfers, racers who line up in the gate with a left foot forward are called "goofy footed." Find out which feels most comfortable - there is no right or wrong way.

Soon, you will want to learn how to do the normal "two-footed start." Some riders can pick this up on their first day at the races and some beginners take weeks to learn how. You can practice the two-footed start anywhere - find a wall and ride up to it, with your front wheel touching. Apply a little bit of pressure on your forward pedal - just enough to keep your front wheel

kids push bike seat image

Dianna F

I would like to by a bike seat cushion for my kid he is 9 years old. His bike seat is hard. By the way what are gel sattles

Answer
"By the way what are gel sattles"? SADDLES, not sattles. When you ride a horse, do you sit on a seat or a saddle? Saddle - of course. SAME thing with bicycles. It's a SADDLE not a seat.

In fact - the best bicycle saddles are made by a company that started out making horse saddles...Brooks Leather! Copy & paste...

"In 1878, the unfortunate death of Mr Brooksâ horse led to a stroke of inspiration. Unable to afford another horse, he borrowed a bicycle in order to commute to work. He found the seat so uncomfortable that he vowed to do something about it. On 28 October 1882, Mr Brooks filed his first saddle patent. Waddling cyclists everywhere rejoiced and the new product was a roaring success."
http://www.brooksengland.com/

The "best" saddles have NO padding or gel whatsoever.
http://www.brooksengland.com/catalogue-and-shop/saddles/
The only thing needing support is the "sit bones". Wide cushioned and/or gel saddles do NOT work. They push all that padding or gel AWAY from the sit bones as soon as you sit on them. Then all that padding or gel flows to areas of soft tissue & blood vessels-squeezing them off - and causing MORE pain.

Quote, "When a cyclist finds a saddle uncomfortable, the first impulse is often to look for a soft one. This is often a mistake. Just as the softest mattress is not necessarily the most comfortable to sleep on, the softest saddle is not the most comfortable to cycle on."

How do i lose weight in my legs without building muscle?

Amber Mich

I have big legs and thighs and i want to lose weight in them but i don't want to build to much muscle in them because then they will be big and muscly.
I was going to get a stair stepper , will that just make them bigger or help me lose weight in them ?

Answer
Big and muscly?
Seen any female Olympic athlete recently?

Do not be afraid to build up muscle mass...anywhere in your body. Women cannot be very muscular unless they exercise for hours and take male supplements like athletes, runners, boxers, bodybuilders...

For the same mass, muscle mass is 3 times heavier than body fat (or you could say muscle mass takes 3 times less space than body fat for the same weight so you get thinner without even losing weight).

Do aerobics to burn body fat. After 20 minutes, you start using a percentage of fat reserves. Youâll burn one pound of body fat for each 3,500 calories of exercising that youâre doing (providing that you eat enough to cover your BMR and your growth and not mess up your metabolism). Depending on how much body fat you are storing overall, and what is your bodyâs preference to store body fat, you could first lose body fat on your upper body or lose it everywhere at once (then youâre lucky).

Also fat in the thighs is the âbaby fatâ, for the baby you could have if youâre old enough and young enough. Itâs the fat that you would see melt like snow in the sun when youâre breastfeeding (itâs a preservation of the species kind of thing as a baby would not survive more than a few days without food, your body does not know about formula).

To get muscle mass, not be big and muscular, but to get toner and thinner legs, do door squats (quads, hamstrings, gluteus), leg extensions (quads), lunges (quads), use a ThighMaster (hip adductors), side leg lifts (hip abductors), butt/hip extension (gluteus), pelvic lifts (gluteus), back leg lifts (gluteus, hamstrings) and heel raises (calves).
Do calisthenics and use small weights for you abs and youâre upper body as well. The more muscle mass you get (donât kid yourself, youâll gain like one pound a month) the higher your metabolism gets so the more body fat you burn.

I donât know about the stair stepper. Never tried it. Stairs in my own house bore me already and Iâm going somewhere when using them.

Note:
You can get great looking shapely, strong thin legs in about 3 months.

Aerobics:
Choose 3 main activities (I walk/jog, swim and bike).

Anaerobics:
Do only one set to failure and rest every other days (or more if youâre older, wait for the soreness to go away before resuming weight training).

For the weight training, do calisthenics (crunches, lunges, squats, push-ups, heel raisesâ¦) and use free weights (leg extension, butt/hip extension, back left lift, dumbbells curls and other arm/shoulder/back exercises). Make sure that you eat well so you get a good blood sugar level since your body cannot use body fat doing anaerobics (not enough oxygen, since itâs too intense).
Squats are the best (quads, hamstrings and gluteus â Lower Body) but also do lunges (quads â Lower Body), push-ups (chest, triceps and shoulders â Upper Body) and any exercise you feel that you needâ¦dumbbells curls for biceps (Upper Body) or using a ThighMaster for hip adductors (inner thighs â Lower Body).

A whole body workout could be push-ups (Upper Body), lunges (Lower Body), back strengtheners (UB), door squats (LB), shoulder lateral raises (UB), leg extension (LB), triceps extensions (UB), ThighMaster (LB), dumbbells curls (UB), side leg lifts (LB), crunches (abs) and heel raises (LB).

Then, if you have an extra half an hour, you could do more crunches (abs) and upright row (UB), butt/hip extension (LB), arm kickbacks (UB), back leg lifts (LB) and seated rows (UB).
