I have a 3 year old son and am looking to visit Dublin with my family. I hear that cycling is a good and inexpensive way to get around, in Dublin. It would be great is I can hire a DublinBike that has a child seat. Anyone knows if those bicycles have child seats? Thanks a bunch.

Answer
Not that I'm aware off.

There are other bike rental businesses around dublin that might be able to sort you out.

Big biking trip through Europe...pregnancy precautions i should take? (read on please)?

Alexandra

This will be for me and my eventual fiances honeymoon! its not for 7 years but of course we're probably not going to use protection unless theres a reason for it. I would be on birth control but im really bad at taking it...if something were to happen on our honeymoon and I got pregnant would we need to stay off the bikes and just ride a train? any tips...i know its super early but we dont want to mess this up haha. we will be there for a month traveling down from dublin to italy...basically i dont want to hurt the baby if i do get pregnant

Answer
at that point, if you got pregnant on your honeymoon biking trip i don't think you would be far enough along to do any damage to your unborn child. in fact exercise during pregnancy is good. just be careful, listen to your body, and stay hydrated, and most importantly HAVE FUN! If you are still concerned then i would suggest discussing it with your gynecologist as they could more accurately answer your questions with info specific to you.

How old should a kid be before using a treadmill or other cardio equipment?

best kids bikes age 8 image

SoCal Dude

I have a friend who lives in a small town in the Upper Midwest. He and his wife have two kids, ages 8 and 6.

He told me that his kids were starting to get a little pudgy. The kids have PE class only once a week for 45 minutes.

Recess is indoors for at least 5 out of 9 months of the school year because of the weather. Their school has one gym, so the kids can't go the gym for recess because of PE classes. So they end up doing puzzles and board games instead.

The school doesn't have any after school sports for kids their age. The nearest YMCA is more than 20 minutes away in good weather, and very difficult to get to during the winter months.

He and his wife have a treadmill, but they think the kids are still too young to use a treadmill.

Any ideas on how his kids can get some regular physical activity during the cold weather months? Would a different cardio exercise machine (like a stationary bike) be okay for the kids to use?

Answer
Has everyone forgotten about playing OUTSIDE? Even in Minnesota, its reasonable to shag them out in the snow for an hour or so if they're dressed properly.

What age do kids typically start to learn to ride a bike?

Mikey's Mo

Sorry for such a silly question, but I'm just not sure.

I have a new toddler bike with training wheels for my niece. She is 2 now (3 in September). I'm not sure if she'll be able to start riding this summer, or if I should wait until her birthday or Christmas to give her the bike so she can ride next summer. Or, is 3 even too young?

Thanks in advance!

Answer
She can probably start riding now, depending on the size of the bike. You want a bike that is correctly sized. A child will go through several bikes. There is not a one size fits all. My kids are on their fourth set of bikes and they are 8 & 9. They began riding at 2 1/2. One was riding without training wheels at 3 1/2 and the other at 4 1/2.

I was without training wheels at 3 1/2 too.

It's easier when they are young. They have less of a fear. Only with age do we develop fear.

At Irv rents all king of cycles: unicycles tandem bikes regular bikes and evan tricycles for little kids.He parks all cycles in front of the shop with a helmet for each rider strapped to each cycle. This morning Irv counted 57 helmets and 115 wheels parked in front of the store He knows that he has 32 regular bikes. He knows that there are equal amount of unicycles and tandem bikes. How many unicycles, tandem bikes and tricycles does Irv have?

Answer
A regular bike has two wheels and one helmet. Take out those 32 and you're left with 25 helmets and 51 wheels, so:
U + 2D + T = 25
U + 2D + 3T = 51 (Using D for tandem and T for trike)
Since D = U,
3D + T = 25
3D + 3T = 51. Subtracting #1 from #2,
2T = 26
T = 13. 3D + 13 = 25, 3D = 12, D=4.
13 tricycles, 4 tandems, and 4 unicycles.

How to convince your parents to let you buy a motorcycle?

Marshall B

Hi, I am 16 and a half right now, and I would like to get a motorcycle. My parents are usually open to things like this as long as they know that I will be using it for the right purposes. Believe it or not, I do not have the urge to do stupid crap on it all day like some kids my age might. The three main reasons I want a motorcycle over a car are: 1) Gas is much cheaper 2) They are less expensive to buy in the first place and 3) I just love the excitement of it. The model I have in mind is a used 2011-2012 Kawasaki ninja 650r. I have looked at the new ninja 300 but I would end up getting rid of it too soon. One of the big points of buying a slightly larger motorcycle is so I can stick with it for 5 years or so. I will be taking the MSF coarse, buying gloves, jacket, helmet, close toed shoes, plus jeans and for the first month or so I will limit myself to 50 mph roads to get used to it. I will probably ride it around in a parking lot for the first week or so. So if you were me, how would you go about convincing your parents to allow you to buy a motorcycle?

Answer
Unless you are old enough to live on your own, there is now way to convince your parents. They are not less expensive. A set of tires on a bike can cost you as much as a set on a car installed. You will not limit yourself in any capacity, either speed, or distance more than likely. I say this from experience. Anyone who's ever rode knows this. A 650R is not recommended for any age beginner. let alone one at 16. You say you will limit yourself to 50 but that bike will do 50 in first gear, so that's not reality. The death and crash rate for your age group makes the insurance the highest you will ever pay in your life. I rode a 500CC for the first 2 1/2 years and was still learning on it. It's nonsense to say you'll outgrow it. There is just too much to learn on a bike for that to be true.

What type of motorcycle should I start out with?

Tanner

I am wanting to get a motorcycle this summer and I don't know what would be best for me. I haven't ridden an actual motorcycle before (but have with my dad on his with him controlling it). I can see myself on various kinds of motorcycles and enjoying them. I can see myself on cafe racers, sporty motorcycles, enduros, rat bikes, and also standard motorcycles. The reason i think I would like a cafe racer is because they have that history with them that I find amazing and I like the look of them too, I can see myself on a sport motorcycle like a cbr 250 or a ninja 250 because I have heard that they are really fun to ride. I like how enduros can go off road but they tend to be expensive (or at least that I don't find any decent priced ones). Rat bikes(: I love how they have personality but they tend to be hard to come by that I actually like. I'm only 17 and I would like to point out that I do not like the idea of american chopper looking motorcycles or touring motorcycles. I want a motorcycle that won't make me look like another kid on a motorcycle. I'm thinking about racing some friends on it and I would like to add in a possibility of doing it off road too. I think I would be using it for some fun in lively towns most but not stunts. I wish to learn how to drift on a motorcycle too like in supermoto or moto rally kinds of ways but I want to avoid enduros as much as possible. I will also be using this for my primary commuting vehicle too. If you have any suggestions please help me out on this because I need an expert of some level of help deciding.

Answer
The first thing you have to do is make up your mind. Do you want to drag race? track race? go off road? race off road? commute? Each of these forms of riding require a different style of motorcycle. No one bike will do them all.

If you are thinking of "racing your friends" on public roads, just stop now and never get on a bike. Not only is street racing quite illegal (you tend to lose your license when the police catch you), but you give respectful riders a bad name, and your crashes cause OUR insurance rates to increase. Buying a race class bike, Like a CBR600, r6, etc makes you what we in the motorcycle community call a squid, which is not a compliment. It means you are just a child on a motorcycle, who is on WAY more bike than they can safely handle, and who also tends to ride like a jackass and get hurt or killed.

That being said...

The best bikes for beginners, and especially younger riders, are sub 600cc single or twin engine motorcycles.
Sport / standards include the ninja 250 ,cbr250, ninja 500, gs500.
Cruisers include the Shadow 600, shadow 750, vulcan 900
Dual sports / enduros are not as popular these days, but a street legal honda xr250, klr250, or classic enduros make great learning tools. Their insurance is the cheapest of the bunch too, which is something you should check before buying any bike.

About your age, keep in mind that until you are 18, you cannot legally own or insure a motorcycle, or any vehicle for that matter, it will have to be your parents bike with you being insured on their policy until you are 18. Just food for thought.

If you are serious about a motorcycle being your primary means of transportation, you should consider what kind of storage comes on the motorcycle you choose. You will need a place to store your helmet, armor jacket, cloves, some basic tools, and any odds and ends you pick up while running errands and such. This is where bikes like the klr250, or klr650 shine. Many second hand ones can be found with weatherproof storage in the form of saddlebags and top cases. I recommend locking luggage, so that your things can be secure when you are away from your bike. Keep in mind you will need a full set of quality rain gear for inclement weather, and you will be caught in inclement weather. Rain hurts above 40mph and I will leave it at that.

Based on what you mentioned, I would recommend a dual sport for your first bike. They are relatively cheap to buy, maintain, insure, and are quite durable. The capability to go on and off road keeps you from getting bored too.

If that isnt your style, a ninja 250 is the most proven starter bike in the united states. Tens of thousands of riders have learned to ride on them and the are one of the most economical bikes on the road.

For your commuting purpose, a cruiser is hard to beat. I used my cruiser with a windshield and saddlebags for 1 year in college and can attest to the practicality of them as your main method of transportation.

Which is safer for a little kid to learn on: Dirt bike or ATV?

My son is 2 and and I am getting him into motocross. The dirtbike I have in mind is the pw50: http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/products/modelhome/40/home.aspx and I haven't decided on the quad yet. I just want to know which one is better and safer for him to learn on?

For anyone who will bash me and not answer the question, don't waste your time. For those who think these vehicles are dangerous, you are misinformed. They are safe when used properly and when the children are closely supervised and wearing the proper safety equip. For almost every story of serious injury/death, I can easily point out what was done wrong. For those who say they go 70 mph, no. Who in their right mind would produce a vehicle for kids that goes that fast? These dirt bikes/quads go up to 35 and the speed can be limited down to 5, plus they have a kill switch to shut off the engine if they get to far or are doing something they are not supposed to do. They also have a wrist strap to shut of the engine if they fall off for some reason. For those who say he is too young to operate a vehicle like this, then check these out:

Yeah, small children can't possibly operate a quad/dirtbike... And there's PLENTY more where that came from! Just do a simple search on youtube.

I plan to teach him everything there is about riding and he can ride along with me. He won't be in any races until a few years from now. If you don't have an answer to the above question, then go away. Thanks in advance my peoples.

Answer
We're getting our 5 year old one this year. I'm not sure of the make of it. Hubby's taking care of that.

I've seen them with training wheels. You should visit the Yamaha shop with him and talk to the sales rep about the appropriate size for your son. He isn't too young to ride one.

Make sure you turn it down so he doesn't go very fast to begin with. Buy a helmet also and maybe some riding gear just in case he runs close to a tree and use other precautionary measures as I'm sure you will do.

Need help with buying a quad.?

King T

I need help. I never owned one, but I've rode some before. I want a LOUD quad. Like how people have modded cars. I want a LOUD and FAST but also cheap quad. I'm a very very very big kid (Not fat) I weigh 180.

Answer
Well first of all when picking a quad bike to buy you need to include the following bellow ?

1.) Price
2.) reliability
3.) Make of quad engine size.
4.) automatic or manual semi auto.

Waring do not buy Chinese quad bikes they look super fantastic Beautiful and they are cheap but they will break down and the frame will crack and the brakes and the plastics so on i bought a Chinese dirt bike and it broke the first day. Its your money and your opinion but i would not get one.

You are better off getting a good Japanese quad like Honda, kawasaki so on.

What to look out for when buying a quad. Well i have 2 dirt bikes one is kawasaki and one is ktm they never brake down in the last two years. The reason is they are good quality and are made well.

When buying a quad

1.) look at owners history ask ware the bike was bought ring store to make sure it was not stolen.

2.) check engine for modification of cheap parts.
3.) reve the quad about 5 times to see if there is anything wrong with the power of the quad.
4.) look at quad see if it has gotten a hard rider who has probably rode the quad like mad and has wrecked it.
5.) If the quad looks bad walk away there are lots more for sale.

If it looks to good to be true it is probably not true.

Ps buy a good reliable brand which you will have good fun on and be safe.

Good look in buying your quad.

He is kind of chubby, he just turned 10, and recently (in the last 18 months) gained weight for no apparent reason. Will he grow out of it?

He does tae kwon do on regular basis, 3 times a week.

Answer
I doubt it's for no reason. Is he eating differently at school?

If I were you, I'd subtly encourage a very healthy lifestyle. Go for walks or bike rides with him (Tae Kwon Do three times a week isn't much exercise). Put out carrots as snacks. Don't bring a lot of attention to his weight or these changes, just act like it's happy and normal for you to eat better and exercise. Talk about health with or around him, but try to do it without lecturing or forcing discussion. Embrace healthy lifestyle changes yourself. Both of you can start feeling better together.

I've found that the best way to encourage children is passively by example.

What is the best age for kids to start gymnastics?

Jason

Is 18 months too young. Also what would you do to encourace a healthy lifestyle in toddlers

Answer
I started my daughter in gymnastics when she was 2 1/2.She's 4 1/2 now. At 18 months your child won't have the coordination or strength to do a lot. It will be more about learning to wait their turn and having fun tumbling. To encourage a healthy lifestyle in our children my husband and I keep them active. My daughter will go to gymnastics class one or two times a week. We swim, bike, take them to the playground and let them run and play on the equipment. We limit junk food and try to teach them to eat healthy.

I am a very small adult woman (4'10" tall). I will be using it for bike trails and 3 mile commutes to work a few times a week. I went to a bike shop and they suggested a kids bike - 24" wheel, 12" frame. It was a Scwinn Midi Mesa. Is this a good choice or should I go with something higher-end?

Answer
If the bike feels like it is the right size after you take it for a ride, then go for it.

How good is Trek 800 bike for adult just to ride around for recreation?

4Rd

I have the one from 1995 or 1996, and my girl friend keep telling me to "get rid of it" and "buy a new one". Then she flashes off her new Trek bike she just bought last year.

I do not see why I should get rid of my bike and buy a new one when I still enjoy my bike. It looks quite new as I have not ridden that much. She say its for kid's bike size 26" tire....

Should I listen to her ?

Answer
Your girlfriend doesn't know what she's talking about. Back in '96 that bike sold for $294.99. Not exactly cheap for 14 years ago. If you like it - ride it - enjoy it. Kid's bike tires run in the 12" 16" & 24" sizes. Once into 26" wheels, bikes are measured by frame size & will fit anyone from 5' tall to 6' 6" tall.

Hi,I spent my youth like others riding bikes and after years away from it my wife and kids got me a shimano genesis for my birthday.Ive been riding it at a local trail, for they have ideas of going on Long trails while camping this year. What are some things I could upgrade my bike with. And things I need to take with us. And where can I find them affordable and easily.I know it has a water bottle studs on the frame but I don't evan know where to get one that fits it.There isn't any bike shops local that Im aware of just a walmart.
Thank You.
Im in good health by the way lol

Answer
Shimano does NOT make bicycles. They only make bicycle components. Genisis is a low end discount store bicycle NOT intended for real off-road use. Read the owners manual.

To find a real bike shop, Google the words "bicycle shop" including your 5 digit zip code. Example "bicycle shop 90210". https://www.google.com/search?q=bicycle+shop+90210&aq=f&oq=bicycle+shop+90210&aqs=chrome.0.57&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

And even Wally World sells water bottle cages & bottles. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Schwinn-Waterbottle-and-Cage/17247654 Always carry a spare tube, tire levers & folding hex-head tool in an under-the-seat bag. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Bell-Bicycle-Saddle-Bag/17330710 And a frame pump - http://www.walmart.com/ip/Zefal-Zen-X-Pumpmaster-Mini-Pump/21679203

Better quality products can be found at a bike shop or Amazon.com. Do NOT try to upgrade the bike itself. Not worth it. Waste of money. I'd bet my last dollar you do have a bike shop somewhere within a 50 mile radius. Go there. See what a REAL mountain bike looks like. If you ever test ride one - you'll never want to ride that Wally World bike again.

How can I decide which is safer...a front or rear mounted child seat on my bike?

kids bike seat trailer
 on Ride-Bicycle-Child-Seat-Trailer-Toddler-Preschool-Bike-Cycling-Carrier ...
kids bike seat trailer image

San Jose M

My hubby says putting a child seat on the front of my beach cruiser is wrong. But from what I've been reading, the front is safer than the rear. Plus I would rather see my son.

Is there a site I can go to that would give me a definite answer?
What do you do?

Thanks!

Answer
Front-mounted seats are very popular and have been used in Asia and Europe for decades. They are less common in North America. Many people swear by these because it is easier to keep an eye on the child and have a conversation with them, and get the child in and out with greater ease. The fore-aft position of the child affects stability. More mass over the front wheel is more stable than mass over the rear wheel. Therefore, a front child seat will be more stable than a rear child seat.

Over three years old a trailer for sure. Most kids get too tall before too heavy for seats.

What are the things attached to bikes that kids can ride in?

Emma

Those buggies that can be attached to the back of a bike so someone (or more than one person) can pull it. Not the small strollers that only seat one, or the seats that can be strapped on. I'm talking about the actual 2+ people carts. And it needs to be able to fit on the sidewalk.

â¢What are these called?
â¢Where can I get them?
â¢About how much do they cost?
â¢How much can they seat?
â¢How old do you have to be to not fit in it anymore? (ex. only kindergarten - 2nd can ride)

Any other information would be great too. Thanks! :)

Answer

Can I teach my 12 month old daughter to ride a horse?

safest kids bike seat
on ... Safe T Seat > SA Kids On The Go front-mounted child's bike seat review
safest kids bike seat image

DOA

What horse would be good for her? Is it safe? Sorry I don't know much about horses but my wife does and she wants me to ask this.

Answer
I've given and sold lots of 'pony rides' on my good horses, to kids from about 10 months up. Under age two, they can't grasp the concepts of holding on, NOT holding on, or using reins.

I recently had a 2 yr old kiddo 'taking lessons'. I put him on a bareback pad, I led the horse, mom or dad walked alongside with a hand on his leg. At first, we encouraged him to hold on to the bareback pad, After a couple 'lessons' of 20 minutes or so, broken into several times getting on and off to allow his cousins a turn. I started asking him to let go and do the typical seat-developing exercises of swinging his arms in time with the horse's stride, etc. After he was a champ at that (walking only), he got to trot a few steps while holding on, then started holding reins attached to the sides of the halter. I was still giving the horse his cues, but the kid was wrapping his head around the concepts of independent seat and controlling the horse via the reins and voice cues. There ain't much cuter than a 2 yr old commanding a 1,000 pound horse "Now woe!"

At one year, I think a child could enjoy sitting up there with a parent. After getting used to the sensation of the horse moving, they could probably sit unassisted, but you want to be certain beyond any doubt that your horse is committed to taking care of such a tiny tyke, and have one person leading and another walking at the side *with a hand on the kid's body or clothes* at all times.

Hold off for a year or so trying to 'teach' anything, but if she likes being around them, help her enjoy that in any way that you and her mom agree is safe. If there's any disagreement about the safety factor or whether the risk is worth it, it could cause a terrible rift if something happened and your baby daughter got hurt.

Any time anyone, especially a child, rides a horse they should wear a helmet for safety. Please make sure you start her off with this important habit! If you can't find a riding helmet that will fit, use a bicycle helmet. The major differences in the two types are concerning the possibility of a horse's possibly iron-shod hooves striking the fallen rider's head at gallop. This is highly unlikely in a hand-led pony ride situation, so a bike helmet should be a good protection for this stage of riding.

I believe in starting them off early, but the idea of a 1 yr old child 'learning to ride' seems a bit too early to me.

Is there a safe way to bike with my son?

Not motorcycle, just a normal bike. I used to jog behind his stroller but it broke and I don't want another one he's big enough I don't think its necessay. I still ould like to get exersize. I thought maybe there was a seat one could attatch to a bike or somehting. If not any ohter ideas?

Answer
Make sure your son wears a helmet. When my son was little, the pediatrician said that under 1 yr old the neck isn't strong enough to support both the head and a helmet. I never liked the seats on the back of a bike because they make the kid look really confined and uncomfortable. The trailers are better. Every time I see a little kid in a trailer, I can read his mind: "She promised me ice cream, she promised me ice cream, she promised me ice cream..."

This morning I ran over my kids bicycle when I backed out of the driveway. I was thinking about getting him a walmart junk bike but I figured that maybe I should just go out and get him a good one instead. Are there any good aluminum framed BMX bikes for 7 year old kids? His destroyed bike is an 18" walmart Mongoose ship anchor.

Answer
Bike shops are usually the best place to get an entry level bike for any age. Sure the price will be more than a department store, but you will be getting a suitable vehicle as opposed to a disposable toy.

Childrenâs bikes are usually cheep and disposable no matter what. Some BMX companies (freestyle & race) have invested some money into making childrenâs bikes more reliable for performance. Childrenâs mountain bikes have come a long way as well. Expect these bikes to be more expensive than normal childrenâs bikes.

Take him to a bike shop and hook him up with whatever he likes that fits him. At 7 years old a bike is usually a bike. If you have money, buy it. If you donât find something in your price range at the bike shop, check out craigslist. Hook up with a few sellers that are selling something similar to the bike you found at the bike shop. Do some test riding, and low ball the best seller with cash.

If you donât know anything about bikes, take the craigslist bike back to the shop for a solid once over.

I hope this helped!

How do I limit the electronics?

Susan

My kids get so upset if they cannot watch TV, play the computer, or play their game-boy. When I don't let them do those things there are some serious tears. How can I get them more active and love it? If you could help me that would be great! Thank you so much!

Answer
Well, first of all realize that it is going to be hard to break the habit but it can be done-just stick with whatever method you decide to go with.

I have a 10 year old and an 8 year old. We have Super Nintendo and a Nintendo Wii, and we also have Gameboys. Super Nintendo is ONLY brought out on rainy/sick days. Gameboys are ONLY used for long car trips or when we know we are going to have a long wait somewhere. The Nintendo Wii is used sometimes for a family activity, but we also use the Sports for excercise (we homeschool)-the Boxing, especially, is very physically exerting. I LOVE the physical interaction that the Wii requires.

Computer time-as for the internet-is with adult supervision only.

Software games can be played on the computer with permission. Most of our games are educational, and even the ones that are not offer benefits for my son who shows signs of Dyspraxia-it helps him develop hand/eye coordination and some motor skills.

Television is also limited in our household, and when they have access to the television it is NOT shows like Spongebob Squarepants. Thankfully, my children prefer Animal Planet, How It's Made, and Scooby Doo (which, while not educational is not violent and usually proves that monsters are fake, the bad guy is always caught-I like it).

My children get an allowance. They purchase electronic time-only their radio/cd player are free. Everything else costs $1/half hour (unless it is family time or educational). Not only does this keep them from sitting in front of the television or computer all day, but it also makes them very selective about how they spend that time.

They can earn cash or electronic time by doing extra chores, which helps me out as well.

To get them more active, provide a lot of fun things for them to do-sidewalk chalk, bubbles, water sprinklers, etc. Let them stage bicycle races, set up an obstacle course in the back yard, have balls and jumpropes, etc. on hand. Enroll them in an activity of their choice-baseball, karate, gymnastics, swimming...there are a lot of options.

I hope this helps! Good luck.

How to forgive and refrain from violence?

When I was a kid, I used to get picked on by a group of boys. Reasons are not important, but it left me with scars mental and physical. At the time I had a friend who always looked out for me, took me to the nurse when I was really hurt, jumped in to defend me when there was a fight etc. A little ways down the road however, His mom died of cancer and his dad died of a heart-attack. After that he was a changed person, he became a very bitter person and was no longer my friend. The bullying continued however and without anyone at my side I myself grew angry. When I decided that enough was enough I started taking Muay Thai. When I first fought back *about 8 months into training* I beat the boy who was attacking me until he was unconscious. The power just felt so incredible, and so I made a list of everyone who had ever hurt me, and intended to do the same thing to everyone on there. About three months past and I had beaten the hell out of everyone one on there but of course it wasnât enough. I was just so angry and full of rage every single day!
About 4 or 5 months later I met an incredible woman. She was sweet and kind and she was simply amazing. Before this time every girl I had met treated me likeâ¦a monster. But she talked to me in a way that made me want to believe I was still capable of being a good person. One day we were watching a movie in her basement and she rested her head on my shoulder, and it was at that time that I knew I was in love with her. After some time I had gotten the nerve up to ask her out on a date and I was thrilled when she said yes. However whenever I tried to plan it with her, she was always busy. It went on like this for about two months until yesterday when I found out she had been dating my friend the whole time. It has been nearly a year since I have acted in violence out of my rage, but those feelings are starting to resurface. I look back on the person who I was and he genuinely scares me. I donât want him to take over my life againâ¦anyone have any advice?

Answer
Yeah we only destroy our selves when we hate, people who bully are actually weaker than those doing the bullying. People who bully have issues of their own of which they will have to deal with at some point in their lives.
I think your growing up and it may be time to focus your mind.
If we hate it's because we hate our selves and our worlds are objective and formatory, when in this state we constantly judge. (Learn that the world it's self is evil, all the major faiths tell us that the world it's self is evil)
Keep it real, avoid drink, drugs and smoking, find some enjoyment in something once in a while.
It's amazing how many of us beat our heads against walls (Minds in boxes, TV is poisonous), when just down the road from us will be rolling country side with amazing views, running streams, and lakes.
Local Charity Groups, Church groups - (Destroy our vanity and ego), Mountain biking or cycling clubs are great, camping out, fishing, walks along the hills and mountains, walks along a beach, photography, this is our true nature. (Stay safe!)

Keep fit, read books, create poetry, art or learn a musical instrument, then give what you have to others because creating is really good for us. This is good for humility too,.
What we give to others we give to our selves. (So in a nut shell, sow good seeds, have faith and do good works)

When we judge or philosophize with the words we mindfully construe pertaining to dualism, we actually tell others where we are.
If we hate it's because we hate our selves, this can be due to being spiritually subverted by the evils of this world - lies, family and societal breakdown, and even buying into subjective and empirical philosophies.

"If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you.

John 17:15 - 18
15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.

Question: "How can believers be in the world, but not of the world?"

Answer: When we read of the "world" in the New Testament, we are reading the Greek word cosmos. Cosmos most often refers to the inhabited earth and the people who live on the earth, which functions apart from God. Satan is the ruler of this "cosmos" (John 12:31; 16:11; 1 John 5:19). By the simple definition that the word world refers to a world system ruled by Satan, we can more readily appreciate Christ's claims that believers are no longer of the worldâwe are no longer ruled by sin, nor are we bound by the principles of the world. In addition, we are being changed into the image of Christ, causing our interest in the things of the world to become less and less as we mature in Christ. http://www.gotquestions.org/in-but-not-of-world.html

What are some volunteer opportunities for a 13 year old?

Kristina H

I'm 13 years old and I really want to volunteer. I live in Aurora, Colorado. What is something I can do? (I would like to do something with kids younger then me.)

Answer
give the kid a break,

now to answer your question :) im a teenager myself so hope fully you can relate to me lol my uncle died from cancer years ago, my mum had it but luckily caught it in the early stages and recovered and my aunty has it as i overheard my mum talking one day, but anyways as i was saying lol you could do sponsored things like big sponsored things not like your normal sponsoured walk but a sponsoured event such as sponsoured cycle over veitenam cant spell it right but were teens we all cant spell :P or europe, you can do a sponsoured climb to the base camp of mount everest, a sponsoured parachute jump wich would be amazing xD alough to do the jump i think you needa be 18 :/ you can do sponsored sking and stuff. only thing is to do a big sponsoured thing you need to raise money like £3000/$5000 but look at it this way just say you contact the company print out sponsor forms etc you should book your sponsoured event with the company a year and a half in advance that way you will be able to raise the money. just say you go round doors with the sponsour form and get £30 a day/$50 a day if you go arount 50 doors just say which is an hours work approx a day thats £150/$250 a week if your going 5 days a week so lets say theirs like 50000 houses in your city lol if you get a map of the city and mark out the neighbourhoods you have went around so you dont go around them twice in 20 weeks you should have your money raised and approximatelly £2000/$3000 out of the money goes to charity while the rest the charity pays for your flights etc so you kinda get a free holiday out of it as well :P also if your under 18 you need your mum to sign a parental concent form but its no big deal lol, theirs loads of different charitys that do theese events heres a site

http://www.doitforcharity.com/home.aspx

its a uk based sight but you can still contact them, if not theirs plenty of different american websites to do sponsoured events just look out or contact a charity you want to raise for.

also i see you want to work with younger kids you wee pedo :P na im only joking. but contact a company for poverty in poor countries and tell them you want to go out and build a school or a well for water etc and then you needa raise like £3000/$5000 and then 1000 goes out of that money towards your flights etc and the rest goes towards building materials just go around doors asking for sponsours :D

PLEASE VOTE ME BEST ANSWER LOL :)

What do you look for when buying a BMX raceing bike?

Answer
I would NOT recommend buying a bike for racing purposes form a Department store, especailly for an 8 year old.. Even at a bike shop, there are less expensive versions of racing bikes - Diamond Back and Redline both make them. In Redline, you are looking at the "Proline" rather then the "Flight."

The problem with department store bikes is that they are "fits all" bikes that will not fit an 8 year old very well for racing.

What you are looking at for an 8 year old would be a mini or maybe junior racing bike. Micro-Mini is too small in most cases. A mini will have 1 1/8 tires front and rear. If you want to buy new, find a shop with one on the floor - with the downturn in the economy, they are likely to deal on the price to move product.

Also, since kids outgrow thier racing bikes at that age, there tends to be a lot of good deals on used BMX "mini" sized bikes. There is almost always one for sale at the race track. Other good sources woudl be eBay and Craig's List.

Plus, if the kid doesn't like racing, or gets serious and wants a new bike, a used racing bike has some resale value, whereas a used walmart bike has limited resale value.

Do racing games simulate the G-forces applied to race car drivers?

fluffy

How does a racing game simulate depth perception when it's only two dimensional?

Answer
I play moto GP and several other racing games. I will use Moto GP as a example, It depends on the mode your playing on. arcade mode you can go all out and ride like a mad man with very little or no damage to your bike or yourself. simulation mode you have to ride more like the real deal or you will wear out your equipment etc. rider fatigue and injuries I have only experienced in BMX and motocross games. so I guess it all depends on what they program into the game. applying G-forces to a driver during a game would probably be programmed in as driver fatigue. they do program it into the vehicle though, some car racing games i play if you go into a high banked turn to hot you fade up the track towards the wall essentially G-forces. depth perception changes as to mode also. if you play in cockpit mode it is very realistic. in arcade mode its more two dimensional. Of course these are just my experiences, I am not a "Gamer" per say I just play X-box with my kids when I can.

I have 4 children: 14 year old daughter, 10 year old son, 8 year old son, and 7 year old daugher. My husband and I were 18 when we had our first born straight out of high school so we have always been tight on money, hopping from job to job, and putting at kids first. This year, my husband lost his job but I still have mine. We have some saved up for emergancies for bills and food but I want to give my children at least a good christmas this year. I wish I was able to give them stuff like ipods and stuff but I feel bad for giving my oldest a fliphone for her birthday this year instead of a touch one but luckily she was trilled. They all love clothes and I find popular brands like Hollister and others from thrift shops and yard sales so they can look nice and I have bought about 2 articles of clothing for each child so far but besides that, what else can I get my 4 children that is age related for each child besides clothes on a budget of $150. Thank you!!

amazon is great. Does the 14 year old like music? Cheap band tshirts, posters, stuff like that on amazon. Art? Sketching pads and pencil sets, under 10 dollars.
If you like thrift shopping you can find great deals on stuff besides clothes, such as jewelry for the girls and legos or something for the boys.

How can I get over a feeling of unwarranted guilt after I make a sale?

Harry B.,

I think when it comes to financial matters, I lose confidence a bit when aiming for the best price.

For example, in stating my worth to a company I work for and negotiating pay.

Or if I am selling something and make a profit.

I don't feel the sense of guilt if it is an online sale, or if I am doing the buying, but if I am the one selling.

For example, I sell ads for my newsletter, The Psychic Times, and, while I believe in the product, I always second-guess whether the advertiser is getting a good value or not after they pay for their ad.

Or, a more mundane example. I bought a bike at a thrift store for $10 but when I got home, I realized it was worth a lot more. I sold it to some guy on Craigslist for $200. I felt guilty about that, almost undeserving. I mean, the guy inspected it and probably knew its true value, but I got lucky.

Why do I feel guilt after I make a profit? I think this is holding me back. I'm sure people like Bill Gates do not have this problem.

Answer
It's because you are a good person. You are empathetic about what other people's needs and struggles might be and you don't want to be heartless and greedy. I am the same way, but there is a balance where you can be a good, successful entrepreneur and still care about others. When you offer someone the opportunity to place an ad in your newsletter, you are simply offering them a choice of whether they want to pay that price for their business to get some extra exposure. If they don't think it's worth it, they don't have to try it or after trying it one time, they can quit. As for finding an item at a greatly reduced price and then turning a profit on it, I say good for you! To the person who bought it from you, it was worth the $200. and they didn't have to spend time and money to go hunt down a good deal. (Something tells me it was probably worth a little more than the price you sold it for.) = )
I can totally relate to you on this because I don't like to take advantage of others, especially someone who might be facing tough times. Even in this economy, there are still people who are doing well. I just figure the people who are buying your items or services are able to afford it. You come across as a fair person, not selfish or greedy (like a lot of politicians and corporations). I don't think taking advantage of the opportunity for a good deal on the bike, for instance, makes you an opportunistic person, but a smart one. You do deserve your success, remember that.
Another thought: You probably do a lot of good deeds already, but if you want to feel good, you could always buy a child's bike at a thrift store and donate it to a needy child sometime.

Am I too old to get into BMX?

Hi all,

I'm 19 years old and I've been watching flatland bmx for several years now, it's something i've loved since I was an early teenager, but within the first two months of my learning, my new bmx bike was one of several stolen at school and I was too intimidated to get back into the sport.
A few days ago my $1500 racing bike was stolen including half the rack it was locked to (They were nice enough to leave me the front wheel).
Now that I'm a bike down, I've been thinking about starting over and teach myself (I do shift working, so I have 4-5 days off at a time and I need a new hobby). The biggest fear I've been having is that I've left it too late and I'm too old for it and I'd look like an idiot. :( Would you start if you were in my position?

Answer
Ha ha!! Dude, I just turned 33, and I started riding Flatland when I was 28..!!

Like you, I was always fascinated by Flatland when I was a kid, and even while I was growing up. I would buy a cheapy K-Mart bmx every few years or so, and get back into 'Freestyle' ( I never knew it was called Flatland), but without the internet or dvds, I had no reference to tricks, so I only did what I saw on this one video I had of an old AFA Freestyle show in Reno, which had dudes like Vanderspeck and Aparijo (these dudes were Pros, back in the day).

I pretty much gave up, until I got divorced at 27, had a lot of free time on my hands, and saw a DVD called 'Ground Rules', by Matt Wilhelm online. I bought myself a $2000 Flatland bike, bought the dvd, and got into Flatland in a serious way..!!

The beauty of getting into Flatland at an older age, is that my level of discipline, commitment, and patience is much higher than it was when I was young, so taking the time and effort to learn tricks comes easier. Learning Flatland is a repetitive process of attempting and failing, over and over again, but it's so rewarding to nail a trick for the first time, and then being able to do it almost every time.

Pick urself a local basketball court, or car-park, where u can be alone and just concerntrate on learning the basics, all of which are explained in great detail on this dvd... http://flatlandfuel.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=630
Be prepared to fall a lot, so get some shin guards while ur at it. lol

I started at 28yrs old, I'm 33 now, and in that time I went from starting Flatland as a hobby, to doing shows around town, and competing Nationally and winning titles along the way..!! Not to mention, making a whole lotta new friends, and having a million photos of my riding to look back on when I'm and old man, remeniscing about the days when I could do awesome looking tricks on a BMX :)
Here's me doing a couple of sweet tricks... http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm74/Canaussies/andrew_in_melbourne.jpg
http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm74/Canaussies/conny2.jpg

If ur looking for a beginners bike to get you started, here's a couple I recommend.

DK Opsis: http://flatlandfuel.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1590
KHE Militant FF: http://flatlandfuel.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1331
Or if u have a little extra cash... KHE A-Damn: http://flatlandfuel.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1617
All of these are pretty good bikes for beginners, but the Opsis is the best value. It's a big seller.

Get aquainted with all the other worldwide Flatland riders on Global-Flat.com http://www.global-flat.com/news/ There are guys in thier 40's still riding, on that site..!! Heaps of news and info there, too.

Any more questions, feel free to email me :)
have fun with Flatnad, and get out there n ride!!

At wits end with son stealing?

cherokeegr

I don't know what to do anymore... My son is 10 and he has been stealing since he was 8. I cant say he started off with small things cause he started stealing from his aunt and uncle, even his brother. Taking money, stole his brothers laptop and gave it away at school. Shoplifting candy. Stealing Xbow 360 hard drives, 360 controllers, etc... We have tried time outs, restriction, counseling, spanking, confronting, having him take it back and apologize, even taking him to the police station and having them talk to him. He comes home almost everyday from school with something new. He says that people just give him stuff... Money, pocket watch (really nice one) toys, etc... Stole $80 from his dad a few weeks ago and passed it out on the school bus like candy. Yesterday we noticed that we were missing some money and this morning, his dad caught him with MORE money. I don't know what to do anymore, where to go, what help to get him. He has been seeing his counselor for 2 years now... Apparently it is not working. I cant put him on restriction from anything else cause it is already all taken from him. This is a almost everyday occurrence. I have told him and his sister both (which is 6) that we are not allowed to take things or steal things from anybody period. (Unless family member GIVES it to them in front of me.) My kids don't want for nothing, they have toys, bikes, he has a dirt-bike, they have DS's game-boys, Xbows, PS's. They have clothes on their backs, roof over their head, food on the table. He stole money from his sister this morning (note it was only a nickel) but its the point of it. I am at the end of my rope and about to fall the rest of the way... HELP!!!
To amazed~ He has been going though therpy/counseling for the past 2 years with no immprovment
To mommy~ We dont have that here.
To Hoppele~ He has been in numourous fights due to his stealing.
Ok, this is to the next 3 people on the comments...
1st, He has been spanked, he gets spanked almost everyday.
2nd, he no longer has his toys, Xbow, dirt-bike or any other entertainment. He has been on non stop restriction for 2 freaking years.
3rd. I HAVE taken him to the PD and it worked for about a week.
4th. There is more than enough dispiline in this house. The punishment comes with the crime. He gets his ass spanked on a daily basis. Funny his 2 sisters and brother dont do this kind of thing, just him. He gets the worse of the dispiline but he is the only one that does anything this extreme. His siblings are 17, 16, and 6. Do yall not read the whole thing before commenting? Everything that yall are telling me to do I have already done and is in my description. Please read WHOLE thing before commenting thx.
To Merry! I greatly appreciate you answering. He already has a clear bookbag (due to having so many books) He has gotten to where he cuts places in the bottom of his shoes to hide things (like money). There is already a no closed door policy in our home due to some other issues. Only door that is allowed closed is our front door and the bathroom door. We live in Kentucky USA.
I have been calling a million places today trying to find out if there are any programs that I can put him in. I was told that I have been doing everything right that i can and that it is time to press charges against him for being uncontrollable. I cant see me doing that to my own son, having something like that following him for the next 8 years. I might have to though. I am starting a new councelor tomorrow and see if maybe it is just the one he has been seeing lately.
To cassa.. You have a good way of looking at things. I already dont work, I stay at home so that as soon as my kids get out of school I am here for them. Most of his stealing is affecting the family, not really people at school (which I found out today) He is stealing money from us and buying things from kids at school, things that I am thinking those kids have no right to bring to school. But thats my opinion... I praise my kids when they do something right but i cant let stealing go unpunished. He dont care who he hurts in the process and actually laughs about his stealing. His dad told him he had to do around the house to pay back what he has stolen and he laughs about it. He is starting a new theripist tomorrow so I hope to get things to change. And it is a actual theripist and not a government one that has a million people. He deals soley with children. He will be tested for OCD, Kelpto, and ADHD (which I know he doesn't have). I will update as soon as I can! Thx to all answers

Answer
The stealing has is about anger and how he see's himself/sense of self! Praise him for what you love about him, hug him and let him know your on his team ... tell him "I Love you too much to not want you to be the best person you can be".

The current psychologist is not helping and I would look at other alternatives. YES..it does take time but at his age after 2 years I would be expecting to see changes in the right direction and this does not appear to be the case. Something happened to trigger all this and if that hasn't been addressed by now then the 'root cause' of your son's behaviour has been swept under the carpet!

Not sure where you are from (you don't say) I am in Melbourne Australia and would highly recommend a program run through the Alfred Hospitals Child and Adolescent Health Department known as ALFRED CAMHS ..they specialise in complex behaviour issues specific to kids and young adults..whilst you might not live in Melbourne there has to be something in your area or surrounding you that can support you and your son. Talk with a Social Worker in your area and again with the police .... the more people the better...eventually you will find the person who has the answer your looking for!!

As for immediate ideas... No school bag ..No Jacket & No Pockets ... a clear plastic zip-lock bag will do ... limit where he has to 'hide' the things he takes!

Another idea (although heart-breakingly extreme) would be to take your son to all the local shops in your area and get him to hand them a photo of himself so they are aware he is a 'shop lifter'.

Taking "everything" out of his room is one idea.. another idea I heard of and thought sounded interesting ... Remove His Bedroom Door ... 'privacy' & 'respect' is restricted ..it is also something you have to earn!

I wish you all the best ... as a parent myself my heart goes out to you..this would not be an easy situation for any of you ~ take care! :)

What brand bikes are good for beginners? Also I have a Standard Mongoose Rebel and was wondering if should I get a different Bmx bike or keep my current bike or get a new one?

Answer
Lighter, the mongoose rebel isn't a BMX bike, it's a mountain bike for kids. A good BMX bike for beginners is the Sunday Funday Aaron Ross AM (AM standing for amateur). You can get it in Black or Purple

Is learning to shift gears on a dirt bike really that hard?

Maggie Hag

I'm learning, but I see little kids doing it all the time, so I figured it shouldn't be too hard. Also what is the ideal cc of a bike for a beginner who's about 5' 4? Any help is appreciated.

Answer
It isn't hard at all and best to get the idea of it by riding in an open area and riding in straight lines till you get used to co=coordinating the clutch, throttle and gear lever till you get it smooth, then you can advance to changing gears while braking and cornering.
