Anyone know about Schwinn and Ross brand bikes?

I brought up this issue before. I never learned to ride a bike when I was a kid. I went for some beginner's-level lessons when I was 25.It consisted of about 4 lessons in the span of 4 weeks. I intended to buy a bike but had not been able to do it for many years afterward. Now I might be able to afford an inexpensive bike, but I am considering the best options. I had heard that bikes at K-Mart are not the best ones to get and that a bike worth the price would have to cost no less than about $300.
When I went for beginner's lessons years ago, I rode a "Ross" ( from what I best recall). It was designed with a wide seat which I would prefer to those seats that are thin as those you see on racing bikes, and I liked the design and the way that it fit me. But I have heard that the best kind of bike for someone like me to ride is a hybrid. I went to a store which sold outdoor-adventure equipment and had some mountain bikes and other kinds of bikes. I was shown one hybrid for about $300 and I know that is considered inexpensive for a good hybrid bike but I actually did not like the fact that the seat was too thin. It seems to me that such a thin seat is for people who race their bikes and have to sit a certain way. I intend to ride more leisurely at first.
I have recently looked into the internet and have seen that Ross has some hybrid bikes that are on sale at K-Mart. Also Schwinn has some hybrid bikes on sale at K-mart ( and at a few other stores, but K-Mart would be most convenient for me to go to) and they are approximately $225 to $265 which, as far as price, is what I would prefer, however I have to worry about the quality too. Does anyone know if Schwinn and Ross hybrid bikes are decent enough in quality for the price?
Link below. I hope it works.

Answer
Not familiar with Ross.

The Schwinn name appears both on bicycle shop bicycles and the lower quality Kmart/Walmart bikes.

Jeep Bicycle?

Mike\

Everyone says that these bikes are crap... What is wrong with them? I have never owned one, but I found a great deal on a $475 Jeep Cherokee Classic. I can get it for $280.

Everyone says jeep bikes are crap, but they never say why
Ok, well, I'm not spending more than $300.... So, is this a good deal? I am also considering either a TREK or Gary Fisher, they are comparible bikes for $300.

Which would be a better buy?
The jeep that retails at $475, and I can get it for $280, or the TREK/Gary Fisher?
I purchased the Gary Fisher Tarpon

Answer
this is just another mass produced cheap bike, and the name Jeep is just licensed from the car manufacturer

these are usually sold at stores like Walmart, Kmart, Sears, Target, etc.
NEVER buy any bike from one of these stores... most of the time they are assembled by kids who don't know what they are doing, and if there is ever a repair needed, it will cost you the price of the bike to fix it

please go to your local bike shops and look around... check out KHS, Trek, Specialized, and Giant
expect to spend 400 to 500 bucks for quality and durability

I went to walmart today to look at their bikes and I found this bike that was so cute and unique looking, but It's a little to tall for me. It's a beach cruiser bike by Panama Jack:

https://www.t-mobilepictures.com/myalbumâ¦

This is the style of bike I want, but my question is am I going to have a hard time finding a beach cruiser that is less than 26"? All of them were that size and I went to 3 different stores. Also, is there a way to lower the bike?

Answer
Hey there!
Glad you found a cruiser you like!

First off, the link you provided is not working.
Generally a 26" is suited for anyone 5 feet and above. Give or take a couple of inches.
It also depends on how long your legs are and the style of the Beach Cruiser.
Anything below 26" is generally considered a kids bike. Go for the 26"
and change it to fit you.

Lower the seat post, and you can also lower (and swivel) the handlebars to accommodate the low seat.

Good luck!
I hope this helps and feel free to contact me and I will gladly help out.

Does anyone know where there is bicycle lessons in saginaw mi?

Answer
Interesting question. I live no where near Saginaw, so I can only give ideas.
Please ignore if someone specifically answers you.
First of all "bicycle lessons" for WHO? An adult? a child?
Typically children learn with the help of their parents (or older sibling, or perhaps a friend)
Children do NOT have the hand strength to use adult brakes, so their needs are significantly different from adults. (Along with their small size (poor visibility) and slow speeds and poor judgment and attention). For a child, training wheels on a small 1 speed bike along with the usual protective gear (at least a helmet and long pants, long shirt and possibly bike gloves -- or even knee and elbow pads) is all you need. I "taught" my kids by running along side them as they practiced.
-=-
I do not know if there ARE adult training wheels. I would think one would be sufficient, and possibly a child's training wheel could be modified. For an adult, I would use a womans bike as small as possible (the limitation is that the rider has to be able to pedal, too small a bike and the pedaling becomes almost impossible (as well as throwing off balance). The smaller the bike, the easier it will be to catch yourself as you lose your balance. You can tell when you are going over...
-=-
Practice is the ONLY way to learn. I would find a sidewalk with grass on either side of it and practice there. The funny thing about learning how to bike is that you can not balance on a bike if it is going too SLOWLY. So, unfortunately, you have to start at a speed that may make you uncomfortable...
The speed of the bike actually helps you balance.
-=-
Here is my suggestion: visit some bike shops and ask. NOT Walmart or KMart/Sears, etc. A specialty shop. Unless you already have your own bike, buy a used one. The equipment needs to be the same as for a kid. You do not need specialty pants, shirt or shoes! If no one seems to be able to help, go back to the one you found was the friendliest and ask if you could post an advertisement on their Bulletin board (which most shops have). Say you want 3 or 4 - 30 minute lessons and will pay $15 each. (depending on the local economy). Bike shops typically have a lot of student help, and I'm guessing you can find a teen willing to help you. You probably should speak to them to be sure they seem competent enough to help.
-=-
I believe an adult can learn on their own. I would suggest getting elbow and knee pads, I'm not sure what kind. Some are rigid, some more flexible. Definitely gloves. ANd ALWAYS a helmet.
Start out going straight. Once you can start and stop, start practicing turns. You may have to find a parking lot instead of a sidewalk for that... I don't know what parks are available. Schools (not talking urban Saginaw) have bike paths that are learner friendly leading to them from the surrounding neighborhoods.
-=-
Michigan DOT has information on regional bike trails, and there are books on it too.
-=-
HTH
-=-
edit
Oh unless you are a "natural" (and you never know, till you try), all the stuff they tell you about how high the seat is, the distance between the seat and the handle bars, the tire size,, all that is for people who CAN ride, not people learning...Buy or borrow the smallest bike you can pedal comfortably with, with the biggest tires, hand brakes would be nice, but pedal brakes are sufficient to start. First thing to learn is starting and stopping and dismounting so that you don't fall over...that's why I recommend a woman's bike - you can just hop off the seat. When seated you Should be able to touch the ground with at least one foot, probably both (toes at least) so that you don't fall over every time you slow down.
-=-
Once you get better, you will need a better bike, for sure. First place I'd look for that first bike is garage sales, Craigslist, and neighbors who have older kids. Fewer gears is better. You should learn the basics on flat ground. That shouldn't be difficult in Saginaw, lol.

Fuel type for modified 2008 yz250f?

Chris

I was wondering if premium fuel at the pump is good for my bike or if I should go with a racing fuel. Its the 2008 model with 13.5:1 compression. The only engine work done would be JD jet kid and the factory 4.1 fmf pipe with megabomb header. Other mods are as follows:

2008 YZ250F Geared 13/51

BOYESEN QUICK SHOT 2 ACCELERATOR PUMP COVER

BOYESEN SUPERCOOLER WATER PUMP KIT

CV4 RADIATOR HOSE KIT

SUNLINE ALLOY SHIFT LEVER

K&N X-STREAM AIR FILTER

TURNER GAS CAP

TURNER OIL FILL PLUG

JD JET KIT

BOYESEN CLUTCH COVER

FMF FACTORY 4.1 SLIP-ON EXHAUST - NATURAL TITANIUM WITH STAINLESS STEEL MID PIPE

FMF MEGABOMB HEADER - TITANIUM

VORTEX REAR SPROCKET

MSR CHAIN GUIDE

NGK SPARK PLUG

PRO MOTO BILLET SHARKFIN REAR DISC GUARD

TAG METALS T-2 OVERSIZED HANDLEBAR PAD

ASV C6 PRO CLUTCH LEVER WITH THUMB HOT START

ASV C6 BRAKE LEVER

DID CHAIN 520 ERV3 X-RING 120 LINKS

VORTEX FRONT SPROCKET

WORKS CONNECTION REAR BRAKE RESERVOIR CAP

PRO GRIP 793 EVO GRIPS

Motion Pro Bleeder Valves

R&D FLEX JET

Answer
Just use premium pump petrol, your list of things you have done to the bike have nothing to do with fuel requirements and it sounds like a standard motor which doesn't require racing fuel. If you tried to run racing fuel in it you would loose heaps of power.

Anyone have experience with bike trailers?

McG

I am looking for a light, folding, 2 child trailer with quick release wheels. I've looked on line, but have zero experience with them. Can one upgrade the tires to narrow high pressure tires? Do they affect the handling of the bike? If you have used one, do the kids really like riding along? All that kind of stuff.

Answer
I've been using a Kool Stop Lil Trooper bike trailer for almost 4 years now. I agree with the other two answers about having the trailer but I would also have to say that narrow high pressure tires probably aren't a good alternative to what the trailers offer already.

While mine is a decent $200 trailer, the first answer has a Burley D'Lite- which is literally the "Cadillac of Trailers." They have every thoughtful touch including padded seating, recesses for the helmet and tinted windows. Mine doesn't even have quick release. The way I see it is if the D'Lite doesn't offer the feature, it probably offers no advantage. In fact, it may even be unsafe to have narrow tires. The D' Lite is the leader in trailer technology and it is also one of the most expensive because of that.

About the kids being bored: My son no longer rides in the trailer but his 15 month old baby brother does. After the intial ride, neither of my kids gave me any qualms about riding in there. Give them some treats, a drink, and something to keep them busy (toys, coloring books, etc.) and they are good to go. They usually look out the windows or go to sleep- which is what they do best in the trailer.

As long as they see Daddy in front, they don't worry. I'll ride a 40 mile ride with one of them in the back and I just let them get out and play for about half an hour at my halfway rest stop before heading back. No worries. Your experiences may be different but when they normally see me riding my bike without them, they are just glad to come along at times. Heck, it gives my wife a break too unless she comes along.

Also, it's recommended that you not exceed 20 mph with the trailer. I found out why when the trailer began to feel unstable when I hit 25 mph a few times. No worries. With the extra weight, you'll want to save your legs on any ride over 15 miles anyway.

Trailers will affect the handling of your bike and make sure that you have either a full steel or aluminum frame bike with at least 32 spoked wheels to pull them with. I had to buy an all aluminum bike while biuying my trailer because the LBS said that a carbon frame or carbon rear frame will crack from the stresses of a trailer. My original bike was a carbon Trek. Titanium is also a no-no.

There are many choices out there when buying a bike trailer. Burley is at the top of the list. Even their barebones Burley Bee trailer is good.

Cannondale trailers are really impressive and they are up there with Burley in terms of technology. Many riders like their unique, more aerodynamic profiles.

Kool Stop is good and they are a family owned company that strongly backs their products. Just make sure to go for a higher end trailer than the Lil Trooper.

A really good trailer that has had a strong cult following but are now being recognized by the masses are Chariot trailers. They are a Canadian company that makes exceptional trailers. Chariot used to make most of Burley's trailers until many buyer's found out that Chariots were the same trailers they were looking at purchasing from Burley and can be had for less. Now Burley makes their own.

Basic requirements that will make your trips easier are quick release skewers ( as you mentioned) AND aluminum rims. You may even want to make sure that your trailer had a rear window in the trunk area so that air can flow threw it on hot days. If you decide you want the D'Lite but it seems cost-prohibitive, consider a used one. Most used trailers have very low miles and are in great condition because they are used so little. That's good for you because you can buy used for a lot less than a new one. Sorry this is so long winded but I'm trying to get as much info to you, so that you will be better prepared when you go shopping for one. Good luck with your purchase.

STEVE

If the kids are around 12-14 what is the best jobs that they can do to help out in their community and environment if we don't live in or near a neighborhood?

Answer
You mean you live on a farm? You have no neighbors at all? The nearest town is miles away? And you are home schooled and therefore never interact with other kids?

I suspect not.

NetAid has programs specifically for students in North America who want to help in the developing world. NetAid is now a part of MeryCorps
http://www.netaid.org
Many kids get involved with NetAid as individuals, then start a group at school to get other kids involved.

TakingIT Global is another resource for young people in the USA who want to do something to affect the situation positively in developing countries
www.takingitglobal.org/

http://www.change.org can help you know what causes are out there and how you can get involved with them.

You can also type in your city or zip code into:
VolunteerMatch, http://www.volunteermatch.org
Idealist, http://www.idealist.org
CraigsList, http://www.craigslist.com
Network for Good, http://www.networkforgood.org
http://www.1-800-volunteer.org/
ServeNet, http://servenet.org/

You can also look for ways to change your own family's practices regarding the environment: do you compost? do you have a garden? do you use your own cloth bags when you go to the grocery or other shopping instead of paper or plastic? have you replaced some of your light bulbs with energy-saving ones? do you put on a sweater when you are cold instead of turning up the heat? do you turn off the water while you are brushing your teeth? do you ride your bike or walk or take mass transit instead of always riding in a car? do you turn off the TV when you aren't watching it? do you unplug things when they are not in use?

How good is Trek 800 bike for adult just to ride around for recreation?

4Rd

I have the one from 1995 or 1996, and my girl friend keep telling me to "get rid of it" and "buy a new one". Then she flashes off her new Trek bike she just bought last year.

I do not see why I should get rid of my bike and buy a new one when I still enjoy my bike. It looks quite new as I have not ridden that much. She say its for kid's bike size 26" tire....

Should I listen to her ?

Answer
Your girlfriend doesn't know what she's talking about. Back in '96 that bike sold for $294.99. Not exactly cheap for 14 years ago. If you like it - ride it - enjoy it. Kid's bike tires run in the 12" 16" & 24" sizes. Once into 26" wheels, bikes are measured by frame size & will fit anyone from 5' tall to 6' 6" tall.

What type of bike(s) should I buy?

max3333

I have a 8 year old son who wants a "mountain bike" for his birthday. I would like to purchase a pair of bikes for myself and him to use. I have 15 acres of property that I would like to use these bikes on. It is mostly flat grassland but there is rough terrain and some 10 to 15-foot hills to ride over. These bikes will not be used on the street. Any suggestions on what type and brand of bikes for beginners(adult and kid)that can be purchased reasonably? For occasional use that can take a beating? Thanks for any suggestions.

Answer
For this terrain, one would suggest a "Double Boinger" or in other words, a full suspension mountain bike.

These can be quite expensive, so one may substitute a "regular" mountain bike, also called a hardtail. These have front shocks and no rear suspension, and they cost a lot less.
Make up the difference by using a springer saddle or a suspension seatpost. Either seatpost or springer saddle will cost about $20 each bike, so this method is far less expensive than a "Double Boinger" style.

At the $20 price range, the springer saddle is more reliable technology, and they were once considered a "required" part of the enjoyment of cycling. Bike shops have quite a variety and so does www.bikepartsusa.com and amazon.com. Avoid the "Web Spring" or "Mattress" variety and just go with the easy and simple two steel spring or two rubber spring sort to get some very enjoyable results.

While it is best to purchase your bikes from a real bike store, Schwinn and Diamondback will always give you usable quality bikes with name brand components at every price point. So, if you get a very cheap bike, do make sure it is one of those two brands. These can be found at Target in a limited selection of size ranges, but if you're taller than 5'10" then its off to the bike store with you. ;)
Lower priced options exist, but will cost you a great deal in repairs and lost enjoyment.

IMPORTANT: The point of sizing is to get a bike that makes you WANT to go cycling. Don't settle for less than that.

IMPORTANT: In any case, make certain that the rear derailer has the name "Shimano" or the name "SRAM" printed directly on it.

For your son. Get him as large a bike as he can stand over with at least an inch "clearance" to the top tube. It is not important if he can reach the ground from the seat, as that's not correct seat adjustment anyway--legs need to straighten fully when pedaling. Just make sure that he can stand over it and that it doesn't look like a toy.

For you, the same sizing applies, but for a different reason. Make sure that the bike is large enough to give you a comfortable reach for the handlebars.

While it is possible to re-size (UP) the $139 Schwinn mountain bike, the cost of the stem riser adapter and stronger seat post, plus installation, may inflate the price of the bike up to a bike-store-bike price, and you might as well just get the right size to start with. That's why I said that if you're over 5'10" then you really do need to go to the bike store. A Diamondback, Raliegh, or Schwinn dealer can still get you a good price.

Looking for easy to follow workout program?

Boy

I am a 14 year old boy looking for a simple to follow workout and nutrional plan with the goal to build lean muscle and look great. This is in hope of being a better baseball player. Any tips, or workout plans would be great, thanks.

Answer
Ok for eating, dont eat junk...duh, thats easy a lot of people know that. Try to not eat a lot of salty things, it traps water in you and it doesnt help you lose weight. Drink lots and lots of water, stay away from slim fast/vitamin water/energy drinks, some might be good the energy drinks are horrible for you and water beats them all out for quality and its FREE! Water is the bodies oil. Drink more and youll feel great. Try to eat small but more portions of good food throughout the day, it speeds up your matabolism.

To burn fat, you need cardio and lots of it. Go running, biking, swimming, jump rope is pretty good and fun sometimes and rowing.

But if your serious about losing FAT you need to forget about your scale and just look at your body. Muscle weighs a lot more than fat so if you start working out and get discouraged because your gaining weight its because your getting toner, and thats a good thing!

Ok then, some good work outs for ya...These are gonna be good for ya because you dont even need a gym or any real equipment, just mostly dead weight exercises.

For the buns
Plie
Stand with feet slightly wider than shoulder-width apart, arms at sides, toes turned out.
Tuck tailbone under and contract glutes.
Lower body into a plie squat as low as you can go without allowing knees to creep past toes.
Simultaneously raise arms to shoulder height in front of body, palms down. Hold for 2 seconds, then return to starting position.
After 20 reps, pulse at the bottom for 20 seconds.

Hip-Lift Progression
This is an awesome way to relieve tension in your lower back and work your butt at the same time. (A cushy mat will keep your tailbone from crying afterward.)
Lie on your back with your arms at your sides with your knees bent and your feet on the floor.
Lift your hips toward the ceiling. Hold for 1 count, and then lower back down.
Repeat the lifts for 60 seconds, squeezing your glutes and hamstrings at the top of the range of motion. Be careful not to overarch your spine.
To make this exercise more difficult, extend one leg at the top of the lift. Keep your thighs parallel and hold the lifted position for about 5 seconds.
Keeping your hips up, place your foot back on the floor and then lower your hips.
Repeat this exercise for 30 seconds; switch sides and do the move for another 30 seconds on the other

Dumbbell Squats
A simple way to kick off even a quickie workout, these squats are powerful little moves. Over time, increase reps and dumbbell weight to amp them up.
Start with your feet shoulder-width apart and 8- to 10-pound dumbbells by your thighs.
Squat down as if you were going to sit in a chair, keeping your weight over your heels.
Squeeze your glutes as you return to the start position.
Do 15-20 reps.
As you continue, keep the weight in your heels, making sure your knees do not past forward of your toes.
For a bigger challenge, try it without the weights, jump explosively, and land in the squat position.

Legs
do lots of squats. also do leg lifts on your side and your back (lay on your back and SLOWLY lift you legs up and down, if it doesnt hurt, do it a lot slower. shoot for 25 lifts, if it doesnt hurt, go to 50)

arms
Bicep Exercises
Standing Barbell Curls
1. grab your weight with an underhand grip with feet shoulder width apart
2 . allow the weight to hang in front of you, keeping your elbows close to you at all times.
3. moving only your forearms bring the weight into your shoulders.
4. hold for about 5 seconds and then repeat.
Dumbbell Concentration Curls
1. sit on the end of a bench with your legs spread
2. reach down in between your legs and pick up a light weight with one hand.
3. place your elbow on your knee and make sure your arm is fully straight.
4. place your other hand on your other knee so the upper body has some support.
5. using your forearm only bring the weight to your shoulder and hold for a few seconds.
6. repeat and then switch arms
Triceps exercises
Lying Barbell Extentions
1. lie on a workout bench with feet shoulder length apart on each side.
2. grab the weight and hold it above your head with your arms straight.
3. using your forearms only, lower the weigh until it is about one inch above your forehead.
4.then push the weight back to starting position and then repeat.
Tricep Dumbbell Extensions
1. grab a light weight with one hand with feet shoulder length apart
2. lift the weight so your arms are straight above your head
3. slowly lower the weight behind your head
4. then slowing lift the weight again above your head until your in the starting position.
5. repeat for one set of 10 times and then do the same for the other arm.
Forearm exercises
Barbell Wrist Curls
1. grab a weight with your wrists facing down.
2. sit on a workout bench with your arms resting on your legs and your wrists hanging over the bench.
3. using your forearm strength, curl the weight using only your wrists
4. hold the weight for a few seconds and then slowly lower it to starting position.
5. repeat and do the same with other arm.
Dumbbell Wrist Curls
1. grab a dumbbell and and keep your palms face up.
2. sit on a flat bench and let your forearms rest on your legs.
3. grab the weight and allow your wrists to hang off the bench.
4. using your arms, pull the weight towards your elbows and hold.
5. repeat and do the same for the other arm.

Abs
Try pilates and such. Sadly crunches, dont do sit ups it just makes it worse. Do a think called bikes, lay on your back and rotate your legs like your on a bike (but ur flat on ur back with ur legs bent in the air). To make it more burning for your abs, when your left leg is in towards your body curl up ur abs to touch ur right elbow to your left knee, then switch left elbow to right knee left leg extended. Also you can lay on your back, put your hands under your back (because its hard to keep ur hands down if you dont I guess) then slowly lift both your legs at the same time up and down, not touching the floor. Doesnt burn, go slower, go for 25, if not just keep going.

Good luck!

Answer
I'm 14 and 5'4. 20 inches is really low, even for your height. It's probably a kid bike. Go to a store, and try to find a fit. Even if you don't want a bike there, say you do and try them out.

I know I'm going to want to ride it on the streets, so i'm getting a Kawasaki dual sport KLX 250SF. It is short, rides on street and dirt, and is cheap.

How do you take care of a Sibrien husky and make it live a happy life?

renaudfami

When i was a little kid and I saw the Siberian husky I fell in love with it right when I took a glance at it. Everybody whants one because of their blue eyes and their perfect coating of fur. When i get older i whant to adopt one is North ontario.

Answer
The Siberian Husky has a WONDERFUL temperament. They get along great with just about anybody. However, there are several things about the breed that many people don't realize before getting one, and they often wind up on the streets or in shelters.

1.) The Siberian Husky is a hardcore working dog. Even the show-line only dogs have a very strong working drive. The husky that does not is an exception, not the rule. They have a strong desire to run, and run, and run, and can be difficult to leash train. They are deceptively strong for their size. They cannot be trusted off leash, at all, ever unless they are in a securely fenced area. Recall training rarely works with huskies. And if you don't have a fence and wish to instead tie the dog outside for a little while each day, don't. They can snap those long cable leads with supernatural ease. Mine snapped two cable tie-outs, a thick leather collar, and two nylon leads. Not the clasps, but the cables and nylon themselves!

2.) They require an obscene amount of exercise. The siberian husky that is content to lie about the house quietly is rare. They were bred to pull light loads for upwards of 20 miles or more in a 24 hour period, and as such require a lot of exercise. If you aren't willing to take up at least a one hour long run or bike ride with this dog every single day, it is not the dog for you.

3.) They are notoriously difficult to train. The siberian husky, like most spitz breeds, is a serious working dog. An innate stubbornness, confidence, and decision-making ability is paramount to a good sled dog, and as such many huskies possess these traits. They are willful and will walk all over you if given a chance. They take advantage of any lax in leadership. Again, a husky that does not do this is more the exception, not the rule. Proper training will make an excellent companion, but consistent, firm training is a must.

4.) They are notorious escape artists. As I said, they were bred to run run run! They can dig out under the fence and they can easily scale a fence up to 6'. Some will climb a higher fence. If you intend to leave the dog outside at any time unattended then a securely fenced yard is a must. If they can get out, they will, and take off to run and snoop. More often than not they are picked up by animal control, a benevolent stranger, or are never seen by the owner again. A heavy wire buried 2-3 inches underneath the fence line will discourage digging.

5.) They are notoriously destructive. A bored dog is a destructive dog and the siberian husky has this down to an art. They often dig, chew, howl, destroy furniture, yard fixtures, drywall, you name it. Fail to exercise this dog properly and you may wind up pulling your hair out in frustration and replacing half your home.

You cannot yell at or hit a sibe, they do not respond well to negative punishment. They are likely to bite or just take off if it happens. They require at minimum one hour of intense physical exercise every day, rain or shine, without fail to be truly happy and well-adjusted. They must be socialized extensively with children and small animals as they have a very, very high prey drive. They usually see cats and even small dogs as toys or prey and will chase and kill them. Occasionally a child may also trigger the prey drive if the dog has not been properly socialized. As with all dogs, it should be supervised with children. They blow their coat twice a year--this means it falls out in large clumps twice a year, all over your house, so get a good heavy-duty vacuum. :P

Google NILIF training and research the breed thoroughly. dogbreedinfo.com has some good information on the breed.

The Siberian Husky is not an aggressive breed by nature. They can be made aggressive, but they are not inherently so. They also can be socialized with cats and do very well with them. I've known huskies who ate cats and some who don't. The ones who don't were brought up as pups around cats and kittens. My own rescue husky was a cat eater when I got him, and quickly learned what "no cats" meant. :P

They can be aloof toward strangers, or they may be very friendly and happy to greet them. There is almost no loyalty in a husky, though. They'll often times wander off with anybody who has food, a leash, or a car so they can go on another adventure. They must be watched closely for this reason. Their friendliness, ambiguous loyalties, and desire to go out on a new adventure at every waking moment is what makes them so frequently and easily stolen.

Taylor Cha

I live in a small neighborhood out in the country that's pretty heavily wooded. What do lots of trees and curvy roads bring? Blind drives. My driveway is in a curve where I can't see people coming from the left for more than about 20 yards. This morning I was pulling out of my drive and as usual I look both ways and pull out. As my car gets half way out I look left and a truck flew around the corner and had to slam on their brakes because I was already out in the road. I Tried to be courteous and wave in the rear view mirror but she did not respond back. Now this is a residential area with kids, bike riders, and walkers present so the speed limit is 25. I was pretty freaked after this had occurred so I was going 45 mph up the road to try and get away from the other vehicle and she rode my ass the whole mile to get to the main road. When I approached the stop sign to the main road a long line of traffic was heading my way so of course I couldn't turn out. After a couple seconds I look in my rear view and see her truck door open and then she comes up to my car and starts yelling at me. Now I had my doors locked and my windows rolled up but she was saying something about how this was the second time I've done that (I've actually never done that before) and that she's going to call the police if this happens again and tapped on my window kind of hard and some other road rage stuff. So say something like this happened again or she decided to call the police? Would she be at fault for the fact that it's a residential area and you have to be prepared to stop at anytime? I mean what can I really do if I can't see pulling out I can only look both ways so many times before I go. Wouldn't the police look at the incident today as her just having road rage?

Answer
The cops would say two things. One, you have to yield right of way to absolutely everyone when pulling out from a driveway. Even if the other vehicle is speeding like hell, they have right of way and you don't. That's the cold hard law, and there are no exceptions.

The second thing the cops would say is they'd tell this woman to calm the f**k down. Getting out of your vehicle to yell at another driver isn't safe, in fact it's downright dangerous. And it's against the law. Not only is it against the law to stop in traffic and get out of the vehicle, it's against the law to yell at and intimidate people.

You made a common driving error, but she damn near committed a crime.

Is an old bike left behind a dumpster fair game?

Zacari

I found a old rusted bike behind a dumpster next to a back door of my school. The bike was laying on its side and looked like it had been there a while, it had dirt splattered on it from rain a few hours earlier. It also had a broken flashlight hanging from the handle. What do you think, fair to take?
I ended up borrowing it and bringing it back. Thank you common sense.

Answer
The other day my sister and I went to a local hotel to see if we could get a swimming pool membership. As we were leaving, we saw a guy put an upholstered chair that was next to a huge dumpster in his truck and drive off. He was not rushing or looking over his shoulder.

My sister and I walked past the other chairs that were out there and saw that they were really decent chairs. So, she went inside and asked about the chairs. The employee stated that ten people already asked about those dozen chairs they were airing out next to that dumpster. Ummm, my sister had to tell him there were only four chairs out there!!!

So, just because if was behind a dumpster does not mean it was abandoned. Some kid could have hid it there because he could not afford a lock. Please don't take it unless it remains there for a day or two more. Please.

April Fool

Our summer carnival is coming up and I am having the hardest time coming up with fun names for our bike races! The toddlers are having a "Trike Derby" and the preschool and kindergarten kids have the "Kinder Kup."

I need a name for the 6-11 year old race and the grown-up race. The grown-ups are going to be riding little kids bikes for comedic value, so I was kicking around "Clown Race" but I was hoping for something better.

Anyways, ideas?

like these:
Whole group casually sitting in a furniture store display
Your team group hugging a police officer
Team racing on kids bikes in a store
Team dressed in winter hats and scarves, going door to door caroling
Whole team in midair
Strangers belly button
etc. etc.
The more and the more embarrassing the better. but keep it PG
I need a good 100 probably

Answer
What is fun to do is find a famous scene from a movie or something, and take a picture of your team doing a reenactment. On one photo/video hunt, we had to find a boat and reenact the scene from the Titanic and scream, "I'm King of the World."

Find a sandbox and take a picture of your team member crawling across the desert searching for water.

Try taking a picture of your whole team upside down.

Just a few ideas...

What is the most comfortable mountain bike seat for a woman with a big bottom?

kids bicycle online shopping image

Myra G

I just bought a seat that looks comfortable but is not. Any suggestions???
yes, it has been a while since I have used a bike.

Answer
Hi Myra,

First let's get some basic terms squared away. Bike seats are called "saddles"... For the most part "seats" are found in bleachers, office buildings and in cars.

I have been an active cyclist since 1985, currently logging 200-250 miles per week... Now it is true that I am not a woman, nor do I have a wide bottom, but I can help you out a bit. Saddles are now being made women-specific. Most of these are narrower models, but as someone else pointed out, women naturally have a wider pelvic region (the whole birthing thing), so they will be shaped differently from a male saddle. If you went to a decent bike shop, you would see saddles with sections that look like they are missing, cut out or perhaps the maker forgot to finish building it. That however is the way they are suppose to look. The cut out region is to alleviate pressure on your pelvic region - and to weight weenies (what they call people who count every gram of every part that goes on their bikes) it is cool because that saddle will weigh less than solid ones.

If you weren't completely sold on a mountain bike, I would recommend a recumbent for true comfort while riding.. Those are the bikes that you sit in a very wide chair-like "seat", with your legs extended out to the pedals in front of you. Riding a recumbent would work certain muscle groups harder than a regular bike would. Your gluts (butt muscles) would be worked (abused - LOL) hard along with your leg muscles of course. The saddle on a recumbent is light-years more comfortable than a standard bike.

If you are already sold on the mountain bike idea, or perhaps you have one and saddle discomfort has become the principal issue at hand, then first thing I would recommend is to look at Performancebike.com. Click on the SADDLES link on the left. Then select WOMEN'S SADDLES. You will see a very wide shaped saddle there for sale for $39.99 (12% off) called "The Seat" by Ergo. It probably doesn't look anything like any saddle you have ever seen (and yes it is ok to call this one a SEAT! It is advertised as:

"Extra wide for unbelievable support and comfort"

"Short length provides a non-restrictive pedal stroke"

"Integrated rear reflectors for added visibility"

"Gel padding dissipates road vibration while providing plenty of padding for comfort"

Keep in mind that "The Seat" is a saddle that supports your body the same way as when you sit in a chair.

Shoot that almost sounds good enough for me! If it could recline and give me a massage I would be set! LOL! Just kidding of course.

Another thing to keep in mind that if you are riding a department store bicycle, you really should get properly fit on your bike. It sounds like you have a passion that makes you want to ride, but the dang pain in the butt part (sorry) has discomforted you and irked you enough to have you post a question here. A reliable bike shop can help you "Saddle Up" properly. They can tell if your saddle is too high or too far back. They can help if your crank arms are too long, or if the distance to your handlebar is too far away, too low or too high. All of the stated issues above can contribute to a sore backside.

Also on the Performance website you can see the Forté EasyRider Saddle. For the Forte EasyRider follow this link:

http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?SKU=14747&PID=1204522

It too is on sale $19.99 (50% off the regular price)

You can also check out another famous online cycling catalog @ NASHBAR.COM for the following saddles:

Selle San Marco Travel Delux Womenâs Saddle

Selle Royal Ergo GEL Mid Cruiser Saddle

A little more insight can be found at: about.com (See below)

If I can help further in any aspect of the sport please don't hesitate to contact me... HOW? Just answer any of the questions that "I ask" with the answer "BIKE HELP NEEDED" and I will do my best to get you the answers you seek.

What should I know about commuting via bicycle?

loved

My fiancee and I recently purchased a new home. It is close to the grocery store and our places of employment. I was thinking about buying a bicycle to commute to work and the grocery store. What are some basics that a first timer should know? i.e. Accessories I'll need, traffic basics, securing my bike, etc.
Oblivion: Grow up. I know how to ride a bike. I've just never used it as a means of commuting. Only during trail rides, etc.

Answer
The first thing you need to know is that your life is about to improve dramatically and in ways you may not even realize!

No gas. No insurance. No parking costs and bonus workout time so you might get to cancel that gym membership!

This is totally exciting and I am stoked you'll be joining me in the bike lane!

First the bike. Go test ride at your local bike shop and fearlessly ask a ton of questions. No intimidation allowed and never go to a big box store for your bike.

You need to make sure that your fitted properly for your ride. Have them fit you even if you don't purchase and give you the dimensions.

Now get a helmet and some simple front and rear lights - even if you don't think you'll ride at night... get them, put them on, use them!

Wear whatever you are comfortable in- there's no rule about lycra! - watch the chain for loose clothing. Experiment prior to your commute if you wear skirts - some are OK, others... well you can imagine. (I don't mind, but you might!)

You might want a basket or a bike rack with saddle bag(s) for the grocery store.

If there is a secure place at work to lock your bike (only you and coworkers have access) you can get by with a cable lock. If not find the best bike rack around and definitely use a "U Lock".

Do a Google search for "Sheldon Brown" - he's got more advice on this stuff too.

Try this site to plan a route or hook up with a local bike club online to see where you can get a map.

http://tripplanner.bycycle.org/

Does it rain a lot where you live? Fenders!!! 90% dryer I kid you not.

You might also join an online bike forum for more tips.

Good luck and happy riding!

I have a mountain bike that I actually ride more on the road than anything. I have the child bike seat on it, as I'm the one who takes him around. However, I like to ride faster by myself as well. Do you think it looks weird riding a bike by myself with an empty seat on, or will people look at me funny? Should I even be worried about it?

Are there any bike seats for baby under one?

New Mom

My daughter is able to sit up on her own, she is 6 months currently. My husband and I do a lot of bike riding in the summer time and we want to continue that this summer. We have been looking for either a child bike seat to attach to the bike or an attachment that pulls behind the bike that is safe for a baby under one. Information would be appreciated.

Answer
I have the 2008 Burley D'Lite. I love it. I have been using it with my daughter since she was 3 months. I use her car seat rear facing in the bike trailer.

The Burley is expensive but worth it. It is so lightweight it doesn't feel like you are towing anything.

jamil w

My mom refuses to buy me a good quality bmx bike because i usually break them because they are not good quality. Shes not cheap because she just bought me an ipod touch. does anyone know where can i get a job at 15?

Answer
First off:

Your mom is just like every other good mom on the face of this planet. She doesn't want to let you get involved in something dangerous or expensive in hospital bills. She may also be concerned that you will become one of those dead beat hippy bmxers that wont be able to take care of her when she gets old. Either way she doesn't realize that limiting your physical activities to jockish teem sports increases her chances of raising a complete dutche bag.

So
Second of all:

Tell your mom you don't want an Ipod, and beg for the bmx bike. To sway the argument hit her with bargans from the internet like these:

http://rochester.craigslist.org/bik/1237706907.html

http://rochester.craigslist.org/bik/1236439631.html

http://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/bik/1256971506.html

http://sporting-goods.shop.ebay.com/items/BMX-Bikes__bmx?LH_Auction=1&_catref=1&_dmpt=BMX_Bikes&_fln=1&_sacat=98082&_ssov=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m282&Brand=Eastern%7CFBM%7CFit%7CS%2526M%7CStandard

All of which will beat ther F out of buying a brand new bike from a bike shop or dans

but if shes to prissy for a deal just go for dans and make sure you get a complete where the frame is 100% 4130 chromo.

http://www.danscomp.com/serve.php?serve=html&html=bikes.html

Lastly:

thousands of immigrant kids died back in the late 18 to early 1900s so you wouldn't have to. so enjoy school, and take it seriously. but if you need some spare bux start asking for cash for holidays and birth days. You can also start working extra hard around the house to guilt trip the parents into doling out a bigger allowance.

so stay committed to the cause and see if your friends can help you get into bmx if they can.

Do we need to start home schooling or sending our kids to private schools?

clhen37

Judging from all the grammatical errors I see on this site I think we should.Spelling errors, punctuation errors and improper word usage is rampant here.I sometimes think they are speaking a different language!!!
Our government schools are ruining our children's quality of education.

Answer
While I'm all for homeschooling (I homeschool my own son and teach homeschooled kids), I wouldn't say that government schools are to blame for poor communication skills. Rather, uninvolved parents and a societal shift toward pawning off the parenting of our kids to "experts" is more to blame.

When I was a kid, I wouldn't have even considered not doing my homework, or doing it to the best of my ability, as I would have disappointed my parents and lost every liberty I held dear. (You know, the ability to hang out at the mall or go bike riding.) My parents checked my assignments every night and kept in contact with my teachers. If I started slacking, privileges were pulled immediately and I didn't have a life outside of getting my grades up.

Today, there are still conscientious parents, but they are becoming fewer and farther between. There seems to be a general attitude that since teachers are the "experts", they should just be relied upon to parent the kids, too. (However, let a public school teacher try to discipline one of the little darlings, and wow...talk about fireworks. Parents become VERY involved at that point!)

Between uninvolved and ignorant parents (ignorant of their children's actual behavior, that is), ludicrous government restrictions and regs, and kids who just plain don't give a rat's behind about their education, teachers are doing everything they can...but they're people too, not miracle workers. If the kids don't want to learn, and the parents don't enforce their studies, there's not a lot that any school - public, private, or home - can do.

rorybellow

I'm looking for a bike and also a trailer to pull the kids behind me. Really for recreational use, light exercise. Should I get a mountain bike or a different type? I would really appreciate some advice. I would just be riding around the neighborhood, pulling the kids or just going around by myself every once in a while. Any help?

Answer
If you're riding around town, and going to stay on the pavement, get a road bike, with 27" or 700cm x 1.25
or so rims. You can inflate them up to 95lbs and have minimal road resistance, therefor making it SO much easier to ride, especially if your pulling a trailer and child!

Where can you get replacement tires for the things you pull your kids in behind your bike?

Misty

First, thanks for your time! I don't even know what they are called, but I have one of the things that hook to your bike that I can haul my twins around in. I need to buy new tires for it, and I am totally clueless about where to find them! Help!

Answer
If you are talking a kidde trailer, the tires are sold at the bike shops.

There is a bunch of numbers written on the tires, like 4076 or 16x 1.50 .

many use 16 inch tires

(see site below)

Call the family bike store and ask if they have that size.

If stores a long ways away, shop on the net

Why do my kids seem not to be able to creatively play outside and find things to do on their own?

best place to buy kids bikes online image

When I was younger I used to entertain myself with bottle caps and empty soda cans. I made crafts and did fun things with what I had. I played with sticks and bugs and rocks, etc.
My kids are constantly asking me to buy them toys to keep them busy. I say no most of them time. They have a pool, and bikes and friends in the neighborhood. they also have toys they could bring outside.
Why does it seem with this generation kids need things that parents 'have' to buy for them to keep them happy? Times have changed for sure..my question how to bring back the old ways of making my kids find things to do?? And for a short time until they get sick of them.
And also the neighbors kids come over and break, steal or lose the things my kids have..it's a waste of money for me.
I am outside with them and do play hide and seek and try but they end up wanting toys. It's annoying after a while ..
Yes they do read books. Their 9 and 7 years old, and are incouraged to read books by the school. I try to help them pick out books that are fast paced and fun to read. I read to them and help them with hard words.
We paint outside and they draw with chalk on the driveway!
The point is they have a playroom of toys. They are allowed to bring them outside. Of course they end up lost and broken. At the end of the day, we clean up and bring things back in the house.

Answer
I know EXACTLY what you mean!!! I'm only 23 but I still remember the golden years of imaginative play... WITHOUT the use of aids (toys). My son is still 2, so he LOVES to go outside and mess with nature and just run around. But is is so hard to get my nephew and cousins to do the same.

If you really feel that you money is being wasted, you can hold a toy sale or donate some of the unbroken toys to the Salvation Army or Goodwill. As for the play time... are there any parks, beaches, wooded areas near your city or town? Sometimes it helps to take the kids to a "different" location than they are used to in order for their creative juices to get flowing. Everytime we take my nephew to the beach or park, he forgets about toys and tv (my sister will let him watch it for 12 hours straight!!! yuck!!!) that by the end of the day, he's too tired for anything else and just goes to bed after his dinner. If these places are not near you, try to be creative yourself and bring a fun place to them.

For example, you mention they have a pool, but wouldn't it be just as fun to "water the lawn" by having a sprinkler or water hose picnic? Put some refreshments and bite size snacks ona table and let the water games begin!!! You should put on your bikini or cut-offs and join the fun, that way they don't feel like their being forced to have fun. It's more appealing if you're in there getting wet too. Also, if you (or your husband) don't mind, stake out a small area, maybe in a corner or inconspicuous spot, where y'all can bring out plain ol' pots and pans and make mud pies!!! Then you can each take turns hosing each other off before getting back in. With global warmign ans water waste issues, you can sneak in more healthy snacking and mud slinging before washing off or water play.

If you go to the beach, make it more physical by just bringing essentials: drinking water, snacks, towels, sunglasses, and sunscreen, and maybe a camera to capture the fun!!! If you bring toys, they end up doing most of the work... pretend you are back in time people and only have your hands or feet to dig and have fun!!! If you MUST bring toys, limit it to a pail and shovel per person... this way they can use them for digging and shoving, but they have to use their hands and imaginatin to mold figures or castles!!!

Another idea: fill some small backpacks with water and snacks and take a hike at a park or small wooded area. Just be aware of any pest alerts in your area (mosquito and tick spray... it varies by state). Once that gets played out, you can explore your own surroundings by taking "people in your neighborhood" walks. We LOVED those!!! It was a good way for us to admire what others do with their lawns and porches... and sometimes some of the neighbors would introduce themselves whils they tended to their gardens. On our way home we'd buy dime candies, but if again, you are trying to keep it free, bring along some home made treats and water in small backpacks. OR, you can host your own plushie parade by pulling your mascots on a wagon and showing them off to passers by (a good way to air out musty toys!!!)... or your dog can come along (if you have one, of course). Do your kids have bikes? You can also do a variation of this activity if your parks have bike routes... or even a stroll around the neighborhood. A good way to teach and learn proper biking safety!!!

Or... you can have a nature fashion show. All you need are some needles and thread. You can thread flowers, leaves, tree berries, etc. and then model your necklaces or crowns in your "driveway" runway.

Y'all can make an inexpensive bird or squirrel feeder, there are some critter friendly recipes online with seeds and honeys for ingredients. So much fun to make and design!!! And afterwards you'll be able to spot your little visitors throughout the seasons come and go. If you get cold winters, you can even freeze some berries and seeds in an aluminum pot or pan; let it thaw a tiny bit to unstick it, use an ice pick to poke a hole and use sturdy twine to attach in to a strong tree branch. As it melts, winter critters can enjoy the icy fruit, nut, or seed treats!!!

You can also have a late night dinner on weekends in your backyard. Take a large blanket or picnic sheet and place it in the middle. Use plastic plates, or serving trays so they wont' spill or break outdoors. Enjoy the outdoors, and as it gets darker, listen to the chirping crickets or look for fireflies... and watch the sunset as you enjoy some family time!!!

If you ever decide to go for take out fast food, park your family car out in the driveway (sunsets are cooler, so you can have the doors open or windows down) and pretend you are at a drive in... except instead of a movie, y'all can talk about your daily lives or family stuff, you know. It's so fun!!! We used to do this with my Mom and it always turned into, "Sheesh, this car is a mess... we should clean and wash it!!!"... and we would and it kept us outside and active!!!

Wow, your question sure brought back memories!!! I hope some of my ideas inspire your kids to do more outdoorsy or imaginative things without toys. AND many of these should be so obviously fun, that even the neighboors will join in the fun (and maybe get them to quit breaking and stealing from your kid's toy box!!!). Good Luck and have fun!!!

Does anyone have any advice about moving to Whistler?

T. T

I am a single mother of 3 young children and find myself wanting to move back out west. I currently live in Ontario and have for the last 7 years. A friend of mine suggested that I try Whistler. After a lot of research online, I find that I still can't come to a decision. Just so you can better understand, I will say that I do not ski, nor am I a mountian biker. I do however want to raise my children in a place filled with these types of activities.
If anyone could give me any kind of advice on this idea of mine I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
T.T.

Answer
If you have a career or profession where you make $100,000 plus a year, and/or other income as well, then you might be able to afford to live in Whistler, if you have a good size down payment for a home there. Housing is scarce, especially rentals. You will be best off if you can buy, but it is very very expensive.

If that level of income is not you, then I would recommend trying out Squamish, which is halfway between whistler and Vancouver, or Vancouver itself.

Consider Vancouver area ... there are three mountains within 20 minutes of downtown that offer skiing, snowboarding and such in the winter, and mountain biking and hiking in the summer. You can find semi-reasonable rentals in Burnaby, and East Vancouver (the area just west of Burnaby around the PNE). You don't want East Vancouver between Nanaimo and Main, just FYI).

IMO, your kids would actually have more opportunities in the Vancouver area, and life will be more affordable.

What do you think of a parent who tows a 2-seat bike trailer ( 2 yr + 3 yr kids in it) on a busy road?

I know of a gentleman who regularly drives his bike on a busy 4-lane road, a road that during most of the times is packed with heavy trucks and 18-wheelers whizzing by at 50 to 60 miles per hour. He says that roads are build for bicycles also and that a bicycle has every right to be on the road, as much as the cars and trucks also. Problem is, it is an old road, and when two transports are side-by-side they are so close they almost touch each other !

Not only that, but he pulls behind him a 2-seater bike trailer, one where his 2 year old son and 3 year old daughter sit, side-by-side. that trailer must be about 4 feet wide, and because of the potholes, he often has to drive not very close to the curb, all the while pedaling at about 5 to 10 miles per hour (crawling, in other words).

My question is this: Do you feel he is risking the life of himself and his kids by riding on such a road? How long do you think he will last?
What is left of a child carrying bike trailer when a 60 ton transport hits the child-trailer at 60 miles per hour?

And what do you think of such a parent who does this?

--

(personally: I own a folding bike, and I ride on the sidewalks (rather slowly also), and when I am within about 30 feet of a pedestrian on the sidewalk, I either stop completely and get off my bike to walk past them, or I simply get totally off the sidewalk to go around him, either on the grass, or onto the road when it is safe to do so (no cars). Sidewalks are for people, so I always get the heck off of them when there are people nearby. However, I'm usually doing only about 5 mph, and sometimes even joggers on the sidewalk pass me by, that is how slow i am on the sidewalks. )

I drive on the sidewalks because I have a relative that died 12 years ago while riding on the road. He had reflectors, helmet, tail light, headlight, bell, everything. He was riding within 24 inches of the curb when he was hit from behind by a car doing 110 in a 50 zone. He was dead before his body even hit the ground, and his body was in multiple pieces when it did hit the ground. Since then, I drive on the sidewalks only, slowly too, so as not to be dangerous to any pedestrians. The roads scare me to death.

Oh yes, I own two cars also, but I like to drive a bike for the exercise, to try to be more healthy, that's all.

Whats the best exercise to do to get rid of saddle bags?

shelly1740

You know the upper thigh area!
I'm already working out to an exercise video called Turbo Jam,
but I would also like to target that specific area!
Thanks!

Answer
Walk as far as you can away from the refrigerator and Taco Bell, Wendy's and Burger King. Just kidding.
I think bicycling and hot showers to steam yourself just like being in a steam room.

I have two kids and I diet and exercise, but nothing is working for me to lose that loose skin of belly fatness that hangs over my pants. All the ab workouts and nothing..Also I have a lot of stretch marks-mainly on my stomach to my thighs. How do I get rid of that ugly-unwanted sight..anybody have any ideas?

Answer
If what you are describing is loose skin that has lost its elasticity, there isn't much you can do about that with exercise or diet. Stretch marks will fade a little over time, but surgery is really the only thing that will remove them also.

Stomach exercises donât remove fat from the belly alone, but help with fat loss overall, which in turn leads to fat loss on the belly. That is how any exercise or weight loss works. Stomach exercises strengthen the stomach muscles, which helps keep the stomach flat by holding everything in place.

One of the best exercise overall for the stomach is called âthe bicycleâ. You lie on the floor with the lower part of your back pressed into the floor. Bend your knees at a 45 degree angle and move your legs as if pedaling a bike and alternately bringing your right elbow to your left knee and your left elbow to your right knee as part of the pedaling. If you havenât done this exercise before you may be able to do only one to start, or you might even have to work up to doing one, but stick with it until you can do 10 or 20 or more.

Another very good exercise is the simple crunch or one of the varieties of the crunch. Lie on the floor, bend your knees to a 90 degree angle, bring your chest toward your knees, return to the starting position, and repeat as many times as you can. I sometimes do this one with my lower legs resting on a chair.

Part of flattening the stomach also means flattening the inward curve of your lower back. Stand against a wall and get your lower back as close to the wall as possible. Try to remember and maintain that posture during the day.

Flagler Beach is a tiny very quiet ocean community just north of the Ormond-Daytona metropolitan area. The beach is very near I-95 in this part of the coast, so it is easy to get to. Unless you want traffic, crowds, and condo canyons then you'd best give Ormond-Daytona a miss and take I-4 E to I-95 N and exit at Hwy 100, Flagler Beach. Most of the motels and diners will be just south of Hwy 100. There is a fishing pier right there. I have often seen dolphins in this area and once spotted a whale.

It's a very pleasant drive from Flagler to St Augustine, and Anastasia State Park is a wonderful seashore with huge tidal pools full of live fish and crabs. At that point I advise giving up the coastal route until north of Jacksonville as traffic is very heavy and slow.

If you have time, take the family to Cumberland Island National Seashore, E of I-95 in at Georgia Exits #1 & #2. This is an all day trip as you must ride a ferry boat over. No vehicles are allowed on the island, not even bicycles, but cold freshwater showers and flush toilets are available. You must pack out EVERYTHING you pack in, and that includes banana peels and soiled diapers. There are wild horses running free on the island.

Do anyone know where I can rent a dirt bike at in Charleston, SC?

I need to rent a dirt bike for my child but I don't know where. If anyone have any ideas please feel free to comment.

Answer
Rent one? Why would you do that? You're going to introduce him to a sport that he loves, then he can't have his own bike. Renting a dirt bike is the biggest mistake you can make. Check on Craigslist for some cheaper ones. Remember, if it's from the 90s or so, it doesn't mean it's a piece of shit. Just check it out first.

Oh, and I think there MIGHT be 2 or 3 places in the whole US to rent dirtbikes. Companies hate the liability because you can kill yourself on them so easily.
