Question about dirt bike racing jersey sizing?

I am purchasing a Fox Racing MX jersey for my nephew and was wondering what size I should purchase.. he is 11 years old and wears a boys medium, but I'm not sure what size jersey to get since I have to think about padding he may be wearing underneath. Any help? Thanks

welllmost of the time the only padding you have under the jersey are elbo pads other then that you have a chest protecter that goes on the outside of the jersey

Cycling shorts and Jerseys?

I was in my both of my local bike shops. I rode my road bike up to them and I checked out a few cool things that I wanted to buy. I got to talking to a guy about riding. He said that people look down upon people that don't wear bike shorts and a jersey. I can see the practicality behind them, but who cares what a person is wearing!!? So, why is it that some people have problems with the people that don't dress the part of the cyclist?

It's a 'club' thing. Just as Boy Scouts have a uniform, serious cyclist do too. It's a put off to the general public who don't understand why adults would prance around in such a silly looking outfit.

Actually, the lycra shorts and gaudy jerseys are very functional items for anyone who rides a lot, especially on road bikes. I wear the shorts and a synthetic t shirt, having no use for the specialized jerseys. Being old and a bit modest about the shorts, I put on a pair of regular shorts over them, but that's just me. Have no problem at all with those less modest.

Wear whatever you want to and ride, ride, ride.
