I seem to remember as a kid always seeing a sign at my local on-ramp prohibiting cycles, but now I always see that lone biker speeding down the interstate, yet they never seem to get pulled over (I've seem them blow by highway patrol several times). Did the law change? Was the sign I used to see referring to something else, scooters maybe?
Bottom line: I need to know since I'm getting a bike soon, are there any roads in IL where motorcycles are prohibited?

Answer
You seem to have a reading problem on highway signs. The entrance of the Freeway says "Pedestrians, bicycles, motor-driven cycles prohibited." It does not say no motorcycles. A "motor-driven cycle" is:

(625 ILCS 5/1â145.001) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 1â148)
Sec. 1â145.001. Motor driven cycle. Every motorcycle and every motor scooter with less than 150 cubic centimeter piston displacement including motorized pedalcycles.

Legally, a motor scooter, such as a Vespa, is a motorcycle. Anything you see about motorcycles also includes scooters -- registration, license, insurance, helmets... all the same.

If you are getting a small motorcycle, such as a Kawasaki Eliminator 125, a SYM Symba, or a Piaggio Fly 150, you will be have a motor-driven cycle and you may not legally ride on the freeway. Which is cool, since they can't do 70 mph on the freeway anyhow.

If you get a middleweight motorcycle, over 150cc such as a 250R or a GZ250, you will be allowed to ride on the freeways.

Read the law, never believe anything someone else claims the law is. Encluding a Cop. Especially do not believe anything a *salesman* tells you.

Best ways to get a good cardio workout while watching a 1 year old?

Then Aliso

My son is 1 year old and my husband is out of town a lot so my cardio fitness is suffering. Obviously i can't go out and run, we have a jogging stroller but we are in a bad area to use it and we can't afford for us both to have cars. Moms, how do the rest of you deal with this? What do you do to keep up your fitness?

Answer
put the kid in a back pack & hike or walk at a good pace. apply sunscreen & pack water. install a bike seat so that you can bicycle with the child. the extra weight will increase your cardio output & make for a better workout!
