Should I buy a toddler bike seat that fits in front of me or behind me?

I'm not sure whether to buy the new style toddler bike seats such as those at: http://www.weeride.com.au/ or the more traditional style that sits on the back of the bike.

I know they don't take as much weight, but thats about the only negative I can see so far.

Any feedback on them for those that have them?

Answer
Many parents like the top tube mount seats because of the "closeness" with the child. Being able to talk easier. Having their arms around -- to protect the child so to speak.

Like you said the seat isn't rated for as much weight, but they also have a size limitation. The larger child should be behind you, especially if the parent is petite.

If you get the rear seat the child can ride in it longer, say from 1 yr to 4+ years old. Usually, somewhere between 4 and 5 the kid learns to ride a bike on their own.

What is the name of the old kid's bikes that had a seat on the back for another child?

I used to have one when I was a child and would like one for my kids but don't know what they are called? It was a red metal bike with a little seat on the back. They also came in blue. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
I may have been a 3 wheeler.

Answer
Sounds like your bike had a banana seat, could ride 2 kids.If so,check out links, maybe you'll see yours. Many bike makers had those seats so hard to pin down which one you had.Popular in late 60's through today.

Edit
Google three wheelers from the years you remember. There were at least 12 manufacturers who made trikes.
