Okay basically my son will be 3 1/2 in October, and I was wondering if he seems to have typical three and a half year old behavior and when the nonsense will end. Ever since my child was small, I have always had the same set of rules, and he use to listen to me and why I didn't want him to bother/touch certain things but lately he has been placing his hands over his ears and going "lalalalalala" singing to himself so he doesn't listen. Another thing he has been doing is wanting to use everything as an object to hit, it could be anything a plastic shovel if it looks like it's a weapon chances are he will try to use it like one even when you tell him to stop. Also the attitude on a daily basis, he has lately been telling both his dad and I to shut up as well as when he is sent to his room, calling me "stupid mommy" (of course an immediate time out). I am just wondering what is going on with my three year old little boy and when it gets better cause I stand my ground with rules and regulations and give him just as much free roam as long as he don't hurt himself but man this has been ridiculous lately. Please help!

well...a few things...he wouldn't know to use the term "shut up" unless he's heard it, and he wouldn't know how to use the term "stupid" unless he's heard it. Children project what they learn, especially at such a young age, at this age, they really in all essence have no sense of self, which is why they are so liable to mimic others. Basically? what I'm saying is that he would have no concept of using a bad attitude..unless he is learning one. He would not know how to place his hands over his ears and sing unless he saw someone else do so. my advice? watch what you say in front of him, watch how you talk in front of him (tone, attitude, etc) be careful of what you allow him to watch on tv.
Continue discipling when something is wrong, however, realize..he's 3. You speak of having the same rules and him always listening. I have a 2 year old...there is no such thing..they have no concept of "rules" nor of listening. They follow by example. That is how they learn, examples. You can't simply tell a child..do this, do that, don't do this, don't do that..say this..say that..don't say this, don't say that. They only learn it by watching who is most around them.
In my household, "stupid" is considered a curse word, we don't say it, we don't allow others to say it in our home or around our kids. Other words as well are off limits. My husband and I never ever argue in front of the kids, and we never ever question each other's ability in front of the kids. They are not allowed to watch any shows that do not hold the same values as we value in our home. And in some cases, this means that certain shows that others would think are totally harmless, are off limits. You'd be amazed at what kids pick up from tv. For example, my daughter who is 9 for a while watched zack and cody...harmless right? two twin boys living with single mom in a hotel and getting into trouble. Harmless....except they thought it was funny to get in trouble, they thought it was funny to try and outsmart mom, they thought it was funny to make fun of each other....now, yes, my daughter can seperate fact from fantasy..but then what do we want to fill her time up with? mindless tv with out of control kids that appears to be funny? or more family oriented things? bike riding, reading, games, etc.
my point is..he's learning from somewhere, he didn't pick it up on his own....pinpoint where he's learning it, remove it, it will take a while, but you will see a difference.

here are a few of mine:
the first one is when i was hanging out with my ex and my bestie and my current boyfriend (zack) and i was sitting on zack's lap and i forgot that i was on my period and that i hadn't changed my tampon for a while (and it was like the first day so it was really heavy) and when i got up there was a huge red spot on his leg and he knew what it was because he knew i was on my period and he went home really fast and changed but it was soooo embarrassing with my ex there ha ha
the next one is i was at an amusement park and i was in line to go on the biggest roller coaster in the park and i started getting really bad stomach pains (cramps) i told my sister but she said i was just nervous and then when we sat down on the car thing i felt wet down there and by the time the ride was done i felt soaked so we went to the bathroom and sure enough there was a big red stain in my undies and i didn't have any tampons with me so i had to use one of my sisters pads and i felt like i was wearing a Dipper for the rest of the day
another time me and my family were on vacation in utah and we were on a hike in the mountains and i had to pee really bad and there were no bathrooms near by because we were in the mountains so i had to pee behind a bush and guess who came to visit.... its a good thing i was prepared that time.....
ha ha another time i was in bed with zack...not having sex or anything just relaxing cuz i had really bad cramps and i thought my period was over but it wasn't because i went to the bathroom and was still bleeding and zack biked to the drug store to get me some tampons aha
and recently on a hot day me and my friend decided to go to the local pool and when there was a safety break she pointed out that i had blood running down my leg then later she got her period when we were changing and she goes sh*t anyone have a tampon and a whole bunch of people in the locker room threw them at her ahah

On time I was walking to class on the other side of school and turns out I had a period stain right on my butt and it was as big a my fist.
No one told me about it until I reached my class.
