best bikes for college kids image
Violet
I am a sophmore Landscape Architecture major starting my first studio. Any creative ideas on how to ride a bike while carrying a 36" T-Square? I don't want to break it because it is wood and it super long and awkward. College kid problems...
Answer
Doesn't it have a container attached to a single strap when you bought it? I carried mine on my back somehow like a shoulder bag or something when I had engineering drawing class.

What's a good entry level touring bike for college?
Blake
I am going to college about 40 miles (64 km) from home. I would love to get a solid workout for visits home and to have a bike for day-to-day travel. i.e. I need a bike that can haul a couple books and a bit of clothing home on an odd weekend as well as one that will get me across a small college campus!
I, like most college kids, don't have much money. I have saved up enough that I'm willing to spend a maximum (preferably less) of $500 on a touring bike. However, I don't have a clue as to where to start (I've never biked before!). What's a good bike to start with - I want on with that rear shelf thing over the back tire.
Also I'm 6'0" - 6'1" and my seam length is right around 32", what does this mean for bike sizing??
Thanks in advance.
Answer
That "rear shelf thing over the back tire" is simply called a rear rack. And you will NOT find a new touring road bike for $500.
The least expensive one you'll find needs assembly & a tune-up. It comes from Bikes Direct.

$599.95 is the best you'll do. Major brands sold at bike shops start around $1,000.

Use the sizing chart from Bikes Direct here - http://windsorbicycles.com/touring_geo.htm Probably a 58cm frame.
