He is kind of chubby, he just turned 10, and recently (in the last 18 months) gained weight for no apparent reason. Will he grow out of it?

He does tae kwon do on regular basis, 3 times a week.

Answer
I doubt it's for no reason. Is he eating differently at school?

If I were you, I'd subtly encourage a very healthy lifestyle. Go for walks or bike rides with him (Tae Kwon Do three times a week isn't much exercise). Put out carrots as snacks. Don't bring a lot of attention to his weight or these changes, just act like it's happy and normal for you to eat better and exercise. Talk about health with or around him, but try to do it without lecturing or forcing discussion. Embrace healthy lifestyle changes yourself. Both of you can start feeling better together.

I've found that the best way to encourage children is passively by example.

What is the best age for kids to start gymnastics?

Is 18 months too young. Also what would you do to encourace a healthy lifestyle in toddlers

Answer
I started my daughter in gymnastics when she was 2 1/2.She's 4 1/2 now. At 18 months your child won't have the coordination or strength to do a lot. It will be more about learning to wait their turn and having fun tumbling. To encourage a healthy lifestyle in our children my husband and I keep them active. My daughter will go to gymnastics class one or two times a week. We swim, bike, take them to the playground and let them run and play on the equipment. We limit junk food and try to teach them to eat healthy.
