What do you look for when buying a BMX raceing bike?

Answer
I would NOT recommend buying a bike for racing purposes form a Department store, especailly for an 8 year old.. Even at a bike shop, there are less expensive versions of racing bikes - Diamond Back and Redline both make them. In Redline, you are looking at the "Proline" rather then the "Flight."

The problem with department store bikes is that they are "fits all" bikes that will not fit an 8 year old very well for racing.

What you are looking at for an 8 year old would be a mini or maybe junior racing bike. Micro-Mini is too small in most cases. A mini will have 1 1/8 tires front and rear. If you want to buy new, find a shop with one on the floor - with the downturn in the economy, they are likely to deal on the price to move product.

Also, since kids outgrow thier racing bikes at that age, there tends to be a lot of good deals on used BMX "mini" sized bikes. There is almost always one for sale at the race track. Other good sources woudl be eBay and Craig's List.

Plus, if the kid doesn't like racing, or gets serious and wants a new bike, a used racing bike has some resale value, whereas a used walmart bike has limited resale value.

Do racing games simulate the G-forces applied to race car drivers?

How does a racing game simulate depth perception when it's only two dimensional?

Answer
I play moto GP and several other racing games. I will use Moto GP as a example, It depends on the mode your playing on. arcade mode you can go all out and ride like a mad man with very little or no damage to your bike or yourself. simulation mode you have to ride more like the real deal or you will wear out your equipment etc. rider fatigue and injuries I have only experienced in BMX and motocross games. so I guess it all depends on what they program into the game. applying G-forces to a driver during a game would probably be programmed in as driver fatigue. they do program it into the vehicle though, some car racing games i play if you go into a high banked turn to hot you fade up the track towards the wall essentially G-forces. depth perception changes as to mode also. if you play in cockpit mode it is very realistic. in arcade mode its more two dimensional. Of course these are just my experiences, I am not a "Gamer" per say I just play X-box with my kids when I can.
