no i'm not talking about motorcycles, i am talking about actual bikes that kids ride. and yes i am talking about an adult beginner bike.

i'm 18 and my parents never taught me how to ride a bike. now that i'm older, i'm at the point now that i need to know how to ride one, to get to the bus stop, and ride to college and my future job (my medical history says I can't drive).

so I want to know is their a bike that is for adults, BUT is not totally humongous and complicated (i am also short).

thanks

Answer
Consult these 5 simple words... "See your local bicycle shop." Not Wally World or Target or K-Mart - a real bicycle shop. The way you talk --- bicycles are only meant for kids. Hogwash. Cycling is for everyone of all ages.

REAL bicycles from real bicycle shops come in all sorts of FRAME sizes (not wheel sizes) to fit people of varying heights. So don't worry about being short.

Also consult this link from R.E.I. - "How to Choose a Bicycle" - http://www.rei.com/expertadvice/articles/bicycle.html More links below. Take the time to read, watch, understand & follow them. Shame on your parents!

How do I carry a kayak on top of my Ford Mustang?

I am considering purchasing a one person kayak and I think I should be able to lug it around on top of my Mustang... Any advice on how to proceed in a safe manner? I am not ready to change vehicles!

Answer
For frequent use, spring for a quality rack by Thule or Yakima, they are the good ones. They each offer all sorts of attachments for skiis, yaks, bikes, etc. Check their websites or go to a better outdoors store like REI.

For occasional use, or to travel light, get pre-formed foam saddles from a kayak shop (or carve them from a kid's water noodle). And two REALLY GOOD straps. 20-foot straps will all the way around the boat and through your windows. The ones I use are from NRS and are rated for 1000 pounds. Get them good and tight around the middle of the boat, as close to 1/3's and 2/3s of its length as you can. Anyone who ties down the bow and stern isn't doing it correctly - you bend the boat. Compressing the boat to the roof makes it very secure.
