My son is 3 1/2 and sat on a 12-Inch bike yesterday. He rode it great but his knees already came up high so I was thinking he needed a 14-Inch bike but they are hard to find. 12 and 16-Inch are common but why no 14-Inch? I think a 16-Inch would be too big but the 12" look small. Any suggestions?
If 14" bikes aren't made, would a 16" bike be okay or should he be on a too small 12"?
I saw one 14" bike at Toys R Us and none, anywhere else.

Answer
The standard 12, 16, 20, 24 etc. exists because the 4" gap is considered small enough to accommodate all riders. Kids bikes are one size frame (in general - but there are size differences) At 3 1/2 I would think a 12" wheeled bike would work. Was the seat all the way down when he rode it? If so you can simply raise the seat - you'll need to do this a couple times a year to keep up with his growth. Usually, by the time the seat is as high as it can go, the next size with the seat set low will work. Because kids grow so fast the in-between sizes really aren't needed.

Unless your boy is very big for his age, I'm sure a 12" would be fine with the seat adjusted. He'll out grow it but kids bikes are so cheap it's usually not a cash issue. If you can't afford it, buy a used one at a garage sale etc. Also, friends, neighbors and family are usually looking to give old ones away, like you'll be doing in a few years. And if indeed a 16" is really in order check it out on him at the store. If he won't be riding until spring then maybe a 16" will fit in 6 months.

Be sure to check his bike out over the year. My kids are the only ones in the neighborhood with the seats adjusted right, tires pumped up, chain lubed and brakes in good working order.

I'm very attentive to my kid's bikes as I'm really into cycling. My 2 daughters have progressed fine from 12" to 16" to 24" now... and I'm a picky dad when it comes to bikes. The sizes worked fine.

How tall do you think I will be?

ALI

I'm 13 years old, I'm turning 14 in 2 months so you can call me 14 if you like. I'm 5'10.5'', yes, I know it's tall for my age. But I don't get enough sleep in weekdays, only about 6-7 hours. In weekends, I sleep about 11-13 hours and also in holidays. In summer, I would sleep about 13 hours in the beginning then later would become about 10 hours of sleep. I'm scared my lack of sleep will have an impact on my height greatly. I drink A LOT of milk, about half a gallon of whole milk a day. In the past 9 months, I grew a bit over 5 inches! I was 5'5 last summer and today I am 5'10.5''! But in the past couple months, I've only noticed a very slight change in my height. It seems I'm not getting as much taller as the past 9 months. I knew I grew about half an inch within the past 2 months.

My dad is 6' and my mother is about 5'7''. BUT one of my granddads is 6'8 and the other is 6'6, although both my grandmothers are very short. I want to know if it's possible to gain the inches you were destined to have. Say I was to grow 2 inches in 6 months, but I didn't sleep enough and grew only 1 inch. If I sleep enough later on a few months later, can I re-gain that 1 inch I lost? Here are the questions to answer since my paragraph is confusing:

1.) How tall do you think I will end up if I get my full sleep? (Just estimate)

2.) How tall do you think I will end up if I don't get full sleep on majority of the week and continue with my sleeping patterns? (Just estimate)

3.) Can I re-gain the missing height I should have already had if I catch up on all the missing sleep?

[Read the whole thing to understand the next question...]

4.) In the past 3 years, I've gotten very fat (about 40 pounds of fat) because I was always so hungry and could never get full then last summer, I started to get full with only eating a very small amount of food. I slimmed out whilst I got taller at an amazing speed. Right now, I'm slim but I'm started to get a little fat again. The two questions of #4 are here:
-Am I going through the same process again?
-Does this have anything to do with my lack of sleep?

5.) When do you think I'll stop getting taller in height according to the information I have provided you all? (Just guess according to the information given.)

Thank you if you actually read and answered it all!
I forgot to mention I have bad back pain in the bottom of my back in the muscles. It hurts whenever I twist. And the spine bone hurts at the top of my back.
