Are 20 inch mountain bikes only for kids?

So I'm 14, almost 15, and also fairly tall. Lately I've been looking to buy a new bike, and I started looking at 20 inch wheel mountain bikes. Now I don't know much about bikes, but I figure that these kinds of bikes would be good for me because I liked how its a small size with 20 inch wheels like a normal bmx bike, but I also liked that it had suspension and the ability to change gears. I was getting ready to order one, but I noticed that the reviews mainly involved parents buying them as gifts for their 8-10 year old kid. Are these kinds of bikes really only meant for small children, and will I look stupid if I buy one for someone as old and as tall as I am?

I've been looking for a bmx for an adult male and I found some that say 20" bmx, what is the 20 inches referring too? is it the diameter or the tires? or what? also is a 20" bmx even for an adult? I don't want to accidentally buy a kids one or something. Thanks!

The 20inches is referring to the tire size yes. To avoid the aquard ness of buying a kids bike go to your local bike shop and get a bike there or you can buy a bike online and get one of the top of the line brands like wethepeople,fit, mirraco brands like that. If its not a top brand or you buy it from a big box store like Walmart you are getting 2 things a piece of crap and a kids bike. Real bmx bike go by frame size like 20.5in or something like that and toptube size and frame size are the same things. Have fun bike hunting.
