boys youth bikes image
Copper Cow
The woman I am dating has two sons-One is 15 and the other is 12. The weather may not be that nice so we want to spend a few hours on the pier and then do some things that are indoors. We are looking for budget priced things.
Any help or links is much appreciated :-)
Ps. We are not foreigners and live about 40 miles away.
Also- Are there some original inexpensive restaurants you may know of?
Answer
There are so many awesome activities in Santa Monica, but most are outdoors to take full advantage of our fantastic weather. Lately we've had a bit of "June Gloom," but the sun pokes through the clouds by the afternoon, and the temperature hovers around 67. Unless you are coming in late autumn when the Santa Ana winds flare up or during the winter, the weather should cooperate.
I absolutely love spending time on the beach biking, skateboarding, rollerblading, surfing, playing volleyball or just chilling, so if the boys are into such active pursuits they could bring their equipment along. There is an amazing public beach house that just opened up, and is very reasonably priced.
Other ideas:
~ The Third Street Promenade: it's chock full of stores, movie theaters, cafes and restaurants and often has great entertainers.
~ Main Street: charming little street with fun stores, and a fantastic Sunday Farmers Market
~ Bay Shores Lanes: bowling alley
~ Palisades Park: really pretty park beside the Pier that extends along Ocean about a mile. There is a lovely rose garden towards the end near Adelaide.
~ The Getty Villa: it's actually in nearby Pacific Palisades on the border of Malibu, but it's close to SM
~ Montana: yet another street with charming stores & eateries. I don't know that the boys would get that much of it, but there are some great restaurants.
~ Skatepark: I'm 17 and when I was 12-15 all my guy friends were addicted to this place, and we still hit it up sometimes. It's only like $3 or $4 for youth. There is also one at the Boys & Girls club anyone from SoCal 18 or under can hang at for free, and while the boys were there you guys could hang at the Santa Monica Library, which is actually really cool, right down the street.
Restaurants:
Omelette Parlor ~ Main Street - charming, affordable
Mani's ~ Main
Urth ~ Main
The Victorian Baker ~ Main Street (only on weekends, love this place)
Jinky's ~ 2nd Street
The Tudor House ~ 2nd Street
Barneys ~ 3rd Street Prom (day only, it's over 21 at night)
Interim ~ Wilshire - I looove this place
Babalu ~ Montana
The Novel Cafe ~ Main Street
There are literally dozens upon dozens more, but these are some of my favorites.
Have fun!
