why do bmx bikes have only a rear hand brake?
if you only use one, the front is a lot better
and if you have any brake, you can;t spin the bars or whatever they do, anyway
so why not have it on the front?
is it because some of them have coaster brakes, and having a hand brake on the same wheel is 'compatible'?
or what?

ok so thses days you have three types of bmx rider.. you have the brakeless who are complete and total nut jobs.. they ride no brakes because they say they cant do barspins and whips whith them.. plus its too much weight... ohh a whole half a pound...
then there is a the straight cable kids, like me... they run a single rear brake, we can still barspin and whip but after landing you have to unwind the cable.. boo hoo, some run gyros so you dont need to unwind but then that adds about a pound and a half and a ton of un needed noise when you land hard... most riders consider us girly cause we like to stop, i use them to be able to do brake stall tricks like abubaka's and fufanu's
then there are the full cable kids, front and back brakes almost always with a gyro, when we see these kids we tend to laugh cause it looks like a little kid bike but i feel as they are the masters of the sport.. they came to the stunning realization that if you stop the wheels mid air then any rotation they make, it being a backflip or a spin.. becomes easier because there is no spin drag from the wheel.. also love to do all sorts of brake tricks..

A fascination technology that involves the physics of motion is the gyroscope.
Not so popular today a gyroscope was a toy for kids in the 50s/60s. If you made it spin very fast it would sit on the tip of a pencil and remain rigid whatever you did with it.
However, though this was a toy to me, then, there are still real applications around today. Aircraft have several methods of navigation built into their avionics and one of the most basic, back up, systems is called inertial navigation.
So you will need to look at the two properties of a gyroscope. They are called "rigidity in space" and "precession"
The first one tells us that a fast spinning disc resists (given it has the freedom) any changes around it and maintains its position and attitude as long as it is spinning - if you can, get hold of a bike wheel, hold it by the axle and get someone to spin it - feel the forces involved
the second theme occurs when a force is applied to it. However when a force is applied to the edge of a gyro the reaction occurs 90 degrees in the direction of rotation.
We can use the first property to hold something called the Artificial Horizon instrument in aircraft rigid, so a pilot can see the attitude of the aircraft with respect to the horizon, even when flying in cloud. We can also use this to assist a magnetic compass to be stable in a plane performing maneuvers. Finally, we can use the principle of precession (that is the correct spelling) to make adjustments to these instruments.
You can use the information about flying instruments to enhance your project, but simply describe rigidity and precession with a demo, if you can get a gyro or a bike wheel - Hope it goes well
