my grandson was 4 when his mother and her boy friend bought him this dirtbike and he ended up with a 2nd degree burn

I would say it depends on the bike and how responsible the child is. I had a dirt bike when I was 7 and never got into any problems, never got hurt. I would recomend supervision at all times and of course proper protective gear.
